Pros

If you start and stay well they tend to promote from within. Once you make it past the individual contributor level, the financial rewards can be substantial. Once you achieve "golden child" status, you can do no wrong.

Cons

Getting off on the right foot seems non-deterministic. Some really talented and smart people are lumped into the "poor performance" category with no way out. The only solution for them is to move on. Dealing with the "golden children" must be very measured. Saying the wrong thing to the wrong person will quickly move a person into the "poor performance" category. You are expected to "beat up" your fellow coworker. Being supportive and helpful is not a company value.

Too Much Change

Pros

Health Benefits are pretty good along with stock purchase plans and 401k.

Cons

Too much change over the years. Darden is constantly playing catch up with competitors in technology, talent and menu innovation. Our technology is archaic for such a large company who prides itself on innovation. At Longhorn managers are more of an hourly employee than a manager. Work life balance is terrible although you get 2-3 weeks of vacation being short staffed on managers has made it impossible to use them. Expectations of productively and labor matrix are so unrealistic. They are losing talented staff because of this and the lack of growth that was hyped for years has come to a crashing halt.

Pros

Consistent paycheck, free meals, bonuses, 401k, insurance. Darden Dimes is nice, but if employees knew that their donations are placed into investments, they probably wouldn't participate.

Cons

Long, long hours. Small yearly increases. Co-managers are lazy and unaccountable. 'Area of operations' rotation (lack of consistency). Labor matrix very unreasonable. 'Utility Program' is a joke - restaurants are dirty and gross. The system is set up to suck the life right of of you and your employees.
