Pros

Everyone at the company has a sincere desire to help others The option to work remotely Positive mission to help mental health providers Generous PTO The Product Manager hired this year has been a real game changer. She knows her stuff and assuming she gets the resources she needs to make her product improvement plans happen, the product will be a lot better over time.

Cons

Small company with less than 20 employees People get promoted to manager because they got there first not necessarily because they are good at their jobs. The product feels like it was slapped together with $2 and a paper clip at times and no one but the engineers in Belarus understand fully how it works, and sometimes even they don't know. The CEO is pretty clumsy with HR matters. He is the HR dept and he's not skilled in this area so if you have an HR issue come up you're on your own. He publicly teases people (thinking he is funny but no one laughs) at company meetings and made me very uncomfortable at times. I don't think he realizes he has this affect on people and he seems like a good guy, albeit one with a fragile ego. He's also not accountable to anyone but himself for his behavior which is sometimes harsh. More than a year into working at the company he told me he was disappointed with hiring me but when I pressed him for details on what could be done to improve or what I had done wrong he wouldn't give specifics. He did say he didn't like that I took a medical leave without concern for the affect on the team. It was a leave ordered by my physician in writing not something I planned on taking and at the time he expressed support. I obviously didn't plan on being sick. (Days before he said this to me my direct supervisor had complimented me on my productivity and positive contribution to the team.) He also wanted me to take over all of the training and support documentation for the whole company without a requisite salary increase. He said his wouldn't be a promotion but something I would do "to help the company out." I believe I offended him by trying to negotiate a fair salary and he fired me a few days later out of the blue with no clear explanation. To be fair he did provide two weeks severance.

As CEO at TheraNest, reading this was quite upsetting. It seemed very unfair to team mates who tried so hard to make this position work for you. It contained accounts that were half truths or outrightly false. But after thinking about it, I feel as though I failed you and should have listened to the early signs. It's the way you saw it. Your perspective, whether true or not, matters and we should have communicated with you better. You're the first full time employee to leave TheraNest, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, even with our very rapid team growth. It's a new experience for us and we are learning from it. We will take this, look critically at the points you made and improve. We are growing rapidly and that has its challenges. We are very thankful for the many positive reviews from our customers who love our software and remain our focus and the reason for our growth. We also continue to improve as a team and as individuals. We are always committed to that. I'm sorry things didn't work out for you here but truly wish you all the best.
