Pros

I worked at Epic straight out of college. During my time there I was miserable, but in retrospect the experience was unmatched. I became a rockstar at my next job (totally unrelated to heathcare) immediately because of the level of work I was required to do at Epic. I am now a consultant at a big firm and making six figures, something that I would not have been able to do without my experience at Epic

Cons

I pretty much agree with everything everyone else said. Terrible management, a contest for who works the most hours, your standing and projects depend on the quality of your TL. I think my biggest problem that I didn't see mentioned above is the commitment to multiple clients. Epic sets the expectation with the customer what you will be there for them all the time, but its just not possible it you have multiple clients all across the country. I was told over and over that I would have to learn that 70% done is good enough. I don't think that's fair when your clients are spending millions of dollars to install a business critical system.

Pros

Epic has given me an ability to impact many large health systems across the country in a very short amount of time. The amount of autonomy that you get within your first year is amazing. If you see something wrong, you fix it; if you have a question, you ask it; if you have an idea, someone listens. Epic never settles for the status quo and constantly pushes for excellence. It's a thrilling environment that keeps you on your toes and at your best.

Cons

Managing work across customers and balancing your work load and life can be challenging. Many times you are responsible for multiple projects and staying on top of everything while traveling for a different customer can be hard. This can lead to extra work at home but if you balance your time and stand firm, you can usually stay at a good level.
