Pros

100% the biggest pro is the people you meet and work with. If anything, the only good thing I got out of Epic was the lovely people I got to work with day to day. The food was pretty good, the pay was nice coming straight out of college with a major in English, and I did really enjoy the fact that I had an office (even with an officemate), as the open floor concept I work in now is just not the same.

Cons

I had a lot of issues while working at Epic. I felt like I was working in a cult, I got talked to once because I worked only 43 hours one week instead of the "expected" 45 or more (which I was never told was an expectation), I was constantly bogged down with never-ending work, and my mental health degraded because Epic does it's best to isolate you, force it's culture down your throat, and make you work endless hours so that it's the only thing you can focus on. For years I've wanted to write a review, but I could never exactly sum up how bad working at Epic was for me. But I do have one story: When I decided I needed to leave, I started applying to jobs. Unbeknownst to me, when I applied to a job using Indeed, I accidentally posted my resume publicly. In QA, you have a meeting with your TL once a week. I accidentally posted my resume online on Sunday, and on the next Tuesday, my TL had a note in my agenda that she wanted to discuss what my future plans were. When I got to the meeting, after discussing my workload, she says to me, "So HR flagged your resume when you posted it online this weekend." I was then forced to discuss why I wanted a new job. I was totally put on the spot and did not know what to say or do with myself. My TL told me she had considered marking me as "endangered" in some back-end, secret system of employees, because I seemed like a "flight risk." I don't blame my TL, because she was forced into this position. Epic, in a sense, was trying to force me to stay and confront me about the situation. Something just seems so wrong about that? What's funny is I might have stayed longer if that situation had not happened. Everyone should be allowed to leave a job and search for a new one in peace. If Epic actually cared about me, they would be asking me why I wanted to leave and what was so wrong with the company that I felt the need to leave only after a year, instead of forcing me to talk about my life and then causing intense paranoia that my job was watching me. Epic's fundamental problem is that it's toxic. It's culture is draining and they seem to have no sense to actually take the steps that are needed to fix the issues it has. Props to the people who stay, but I don't think I was made for a company as such. I once saw a reviewer call it a "mediocre cult," and I couldn't agree more.

Pros

They have good benefits and the people that work there all have the drive and intelligence to make work easier. The work is rewarding and I learned a lot about myself and my capabilities.

Cons

You are a "workhorse" when you are there. The expectation is that you put them first, and work/life balance doesn't exist. If you stand up for something, especially as a manager, you are reprimanded and accused of creating a bad work culture. Even as a manager you're not given the authority to make decisions. QA is also being transitioned into the IS role, and is being required to take on more work for no pay increase and little training. The management of QA now is made up of all IS, and you can tell by the decisions being made.

Pros

Epic has very competitive pay and benefit. Our healthcare benefits stood out to me as the most valuable I have ever seen at a company. Creative building design also livens up a difficult work environment with options for single or double office space. The other TS I worked with were largely smart, kind, and generous coworkers. The food at Epic is also fantastic. If you enjoy the work, TS work at Epic can be stimulating and exciting. There is an unrealistically steep learning curve, but it is not impossible to find a good work-life balance after the first two years here (expect the first two years to be hell). From what I have seen, you either work for Epic for less than two years, or you work for over five (love it or hate it mentality).

Cons

Epic's corporate structure is very ill-defined to the company's determent. Resources are funneled to picking up new college hires, and not towards improving the lives of current employees. In my time at Epic, any time I had to interface with HR was a nightmare. Documents I requested would not be delivered and complaints / constructive feedback did not go anywhere. Communication from management is scant, and an opaque feedback culture makes it very difficult to improve when your performance is not perfect. There is very little you can do to improve your situation if you are staffed to a "problem" customer, which most new hires are. I was told directly from my TLTL that once a customer is unhappy (even if the reason is outside of the TS's control or is in-line with standard Epic business practices) there is no desire to find equity for the current TS, and that TS will be punished. Of my starting class more than half a year ago, almost half of us have left Epic, if that tells you anything. I do not doubt that the company is a good fit for some individuals (especially if you get a good customer assignment) but Epic's management structure makes it a really terrible company to work with. Every doctor or therapist I have seen in the past two years has said that Epic employees are their bread and butter, and that they have never heard of someone who left Epic on perfectly positive or neutral terms. I cannot stress enough that young college graduates should look elsewhere. If you have prior work experience and know what kind of toxicity you can put up with from management, then I would perhaps consider working here.
