Pros

- Benefits - Remote work

Cons

- Unrealistic expectations - The company funds the wrong department and overhires "managers". There term manager is used loosely at Expel.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for being a part of Expel for 3–4 years, we really value your perspective. It’s great to hear that you’ve found benefits and remote work to be positives, and we recognize your concerns about unrealistic expectations and how we invest in staffing. We’re constantly working to align priorities across the company and to make sure every role, especially manager roles, adds meaningful value. We also agree that nurturing careers and creating internal growth opportunities are vital, and we’re committed to doing better on both fronts. Thank you for being candid and for helping us continue to build a better Expel for everyone.

Pros

Expel is the best place I've ever worked. Yes, the tech is top-notch (we’re solving real problems for customers in an innovative way), but what truly makes Expel special is the people. You won’t find a more kind, smart, quirky, and authentic group anywhere else. From day one, I’ve felt safe and encouraged to be myself, and not in a cliché way. It’s a place where weird is welcome and individuality is celebrated. Leadership is transparent and accessible, and I’ve had the opportunity to try new things, grow into new roles, and be part of meaningful projects that move the business forward. My manager is the best in the business, supportive, sharp, and truly invested in my growth. That kind of leadership is rare.

Cons

Like any startup, change is constant. We’re past the scrappy build stage and are now focused on scaling, which comes with growing pains, shifting priorities, occasional process overload, and the reality that not every experiment works out. There’s also been some turnover as expectations evolve and the culture matures. But if you're resilient, flexible, and motivated by solving new problems, it's the kind of challenge that keeps things interesting.

Thanks so much for sharing this thoughtful review, it genuinely means a lot. We’re so glad to hear that your experience at Expel has felt like a place where you can be your full self and grow in ways that matter to you. That’s exactly the kind of environment we’re aiming to create and protect. You’re absolutely right that scaling comes with its fair share of growing pains, but we’re committed to learning, iterating, and doing right by our people along the way. Thank you for being part of what makes this place special - the kind, smart, quirky, and authentic folks who keep showing up and helping us move forward. We’ll keep focusing on the team, because without great people, none of this works.

Pros

Strong company culture (at least historically) and a genuinely impressive product. The founders are approachable, down-to-earth, and clearly care. Most people here are kind, collaborative, and great to work with.

Cons

There's been so much leadership turnover that the culture is starting to erode. Many recent C-level hires feel misaligned with the values that made this place special. There’s a lack of steady leadership and long-term vision, which leads to reactive decision-making, siloed work, and general confusion. There have been glimmers of hope, moments where it felt like things were improving, but those changes never seem to stick.
