Pros

Individual contributors and a majority of “middle management” are truly incredible, amazing, hard working people. They are on the whole kind, generous, and intelligent.

Cons

The C-suite at Fictiv is really separated from what their employees actually do to keep the company running, and this has led to an attitude that the employees are simply not working hard enough to get things done when the company does not hit the desired metrics. This is especially apparent on the Sales and Operations teams. I often heard upper management say that sales people were “replaceable” and any attempt to defend them was met with derision and scorn from those in power. I heard about a number of meetings where an individual on the GTM team was verbally attacked for an hour straight for messing up deals in a public meeting. There is also a fear based culture on the general operation side that has to be called out. Often, the COO would decide that she did not like an individual and would then sabotage their growth at the company. Be that promotions, collaboration opportunities, or pay increases. This was (and I assume still is) a well known risk of working in the operations team. Oftentimes requests to make internal processes better are completely ignored by upper management, despite the fact that the processes were well known to be inefficient and to waste their employees’ time. When changes were made, it was only because individuals fought tooth and nail to make them happen, often at the expense of their future careers at the company. (Since disagreeing with upper management was a sure fire way to make them think you weren’t on their side and were not working hard enough.) The pay is also well below market rate, and when approached about this fact, the c-suite often falls back on the excuse that “pay should not be the only reason you work here.” Many employees have passion for their work, but asking them to live a different lifestyle to work at Fictiv seems extreme. I will also add that the c-suite has made promises about compensation that they have failed to follow through on.

Pros

The IC's and middle management work hard and are great people. Quite frankly, they are too good for this "organization".

Cons

Goals constantly shift and they are usually unattainable and they know it. They set them anyway to appease investors and then eliminate people when they inevitably miss. They move goals around so frequently, they forget they did it. Certain members of the C-suite will openly verbally abuse, bully, berate and belittle people in open forums. They are extremely and unnecessarily top-heavy with obvious redundancy. This is largely due to the cliques or "favorites" clubs that are established by certain members of the C-suite. Obviously the clique members are the only ones exempt from the wrath and abuse from the leaders. These same leaders make knee-jerk, non-data driven decisions without considering the consequences of those decisions. The leaders create a culture of fear leaving the IC's feeling like they constantly have to look over their shoulders.

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. Commission letters containing goals for our sales teams were distributed in January for the 2023 year. We have not changed these terms unless one of our team members has had a role change. If this is untrue for your situation, please reach out to me so that I can investigate this further. Fictiv does subscribe to an agile and experimental mindset, so while the goals have stayed intact, the priorities and ways we achieve these goals may change to meet the needs of our customers and ever-changing market landscape. At Fictiv we have worked hard to build a safe culture based on compassion (one of our core behaviors), transparency and trust. It is disheartening to hear that this has not been your experience. I ask that you please reach out to me directly if you feel that you were ever treated poorly by any member of the Fictiv team. Unprofessional conduct of any nature that is witnessed, shared, or reported is taken very seriously and investigated by our trained PeopleOps professionals. We have several different systems that we use to collect constant employee feedback from our Fictors, including anonymous employee engagement surveys in some of our regions. Thank you for sharing that you find this method to be the most effective. As a current Fictor, I encourage you to please reach out to me directly so that we can talk in more detail about your feedback and overall experience at Fictiv. Though hard to hear, I appreciate your honesty. Thank you again. Sr. Director, People

Pros

There was plenty of potential for positives, but very little came to fruition.

Cons

Of the many companies that I've worked that, Fictiv is by far the most disappointing. The interview process was straightforward and the people seemed genuinely focused on building a culture as much as building the company itself. However, upon starting, it was very quick that there was very little support around you. I know turnover is relatively high in sales positions (when compared to other departments), but it truly seemed like the higher ups viewed sales people as completely expendable. Marketing was, by and large, owned by one person and one person alone - there were plenty of voices on that team but they were routinely drowned out, overpowered, and ignored in favor of nepotism. Operations had good contributors, but the many complaints and workplace issues were by and large brushed under the rug. Customer Support employees were under-appreciated and always stressed (this, on its own, isn't abnormal, which is a problem in general). Leadership was very unsupportive of its employees. Every single day, peers would talk about how they were thrown under the bus, yelled at for things out of their control (or not even within their job expectations), and more. The CEO was inspirational... until he wasn't. Other leaders were extremely hostile, even to people that didn't work for them in any way. The marketing department lost its lead in 2019 and the position was never filled again. Instead, someone without marketing knowledge filled in temporarily and, as a result, the team fell apart. I do think certain leads were positive leaders and created good environments for their employees, but not nearly enough. Overall, Fictiv talked a big game and delivered on very little. They claimed to care about diversity and inclusion, but often ignored the issues and complaints of those minority and female employees. Hiring feedback was, in most cases, completely ignored. All of this summed up to employees feeling like the company didn't care about them.
