Pros

Best perk about working at this location is the free parking. The Bistro offers a nice variety of dining options on campus which comes in handy when you are rushed for lunch.

Cons

Where to start?? It's the annual review season here and there are a lot of angry people walking about the building. As usual, we hear from upper management how the company is doing well and how much they appreciate all the hard work we've done, but then you get your notice on what your pay increase is for the year and you find out that after they have reduced your Benefit Dollars and increased the employee cost of medical and dental insurance that you are actually bringing home less money than you were last year. It's a literal smack in the face. I've watched a lot of good, hard working people walk out the door this past year and I believe I've finally figured out why. Fifth Third management identifies who they feel are "high performers" and will groom these folks to progress upward within the company. The rest of the people are just job fillers and you are on your own. No coaching, no training, no support at all. The business model is to keep turnover high (in the 38% range) because to upper management it's more economical to bring in new people off the street and pay them lower wages than it is to actually develop people and pay them a decent salary. The only way to make more money is to try to find a position a level higher than the one you have. The problem with that is you have to be on that list of top performers to even be considered regardless of what experience you can bring to the table. If you are desperate for a job and it comes down to starving or working here, I think next time I'd choose to starve. My recommendation to anyone seeking employment with Fifth Third is to stay away. I know I won't be here much longer. I came here thinking I could have a career and what I've discovered is that it's just a job.

Downtown location is geographically centralized, eas

Cons

Where do I begin...It all starts with communication, which is horrible. Major announcements tend to go out Friday afternoons (between 4-5pm) in order to avoid questions. For example, we were just informed that due to COVID restrictions being relaxed in Ohio that as of June 2nd we will cease in office rotations and return to pre-COVID work conditions. No rotation, no flexible work arrangements, nothing...Just the message of "get back to regular work" essentially. No degree of empathy in the message, no acknowledgement of tense circumstances or attempts to innovate the work place environment. 5/3 does NOT care about employees even in the slightest. It's like they're 15 years behind the rest of the working world. They own the parking garage under their building but employees still have to pay for parking. During an on site shooting a couple years ago, no mass communication or warning notification went out until significantly after the event. Many employees were needlessly placed in harms way and some lost their lives. Work place relationships between manager and employee are NOT discouraged, in fact they have been rewarded on at least 2 separate occasions that I have observed. In which one employee received 2 promotions within less than 12 months. I also observed a senior leader in the accounting department refer to a middle eastern employee as a "goat (expletive)" in front of nearly the entire department...Nothing was done and no follow up from the HR team to ensure me they looked into the matter. Granted, I don't expect to be fully 'in the loop' as to what they're doing. I realize there are privacy matters at stake and levels of confidentiality. But the lack of communication to ensure me they at least looked into it leads me to believe they didn't perform a thorough investigation or their due diligence. 5/3 is desperate to be a major player in the financial industry, and they're willing to achieve this result at the expense of employees. Pay is sub-par (at or below market), bonuses are mildly competitive but again not in line with expectations, promotability exists but is more often based on senior leaders personal opinions of an employee as opposed to objective performance evaluations. Which btw, I've seen 2 non-white persons in the accounting/finance departments in the years I've worked here. ZERO diversity...All around, 5/3 does not care about employees. I could go on for much longer here but ultimately what's the point because nothing will happen internally. My only hope is that by reading this you stay far far away from 5/3.

Pros

Maternity and paternity are pretty conpetitive

Cons

It’s a massive company that doesn’t want any upward feedback. Management is out of touch. Executive management in Chicago regularly lied about turnover and encourages unethical behavior. They boast that they put the customer at the center, but the processes to resolve anything even when bank error are rigid and take days/weeks to resolve. Branch managers are performance managers and widget-pushers with no authority to make decisions. The incentives were not paid on time and were incorrect more often than not. For a company that asks for 50+ hour work weeks from its managers, I expected to at least be invented correctly and on time, but it all rolls down hill. The branch staff is not important and regional and executive management consistently reminded us that we are replaceable. This was the worst place I’ve ever worked.
