Pros

They give you a chance to build your resume. There are a lot of different issues that occur that gives you the experience you need to move on. Diaster Management, labor and payroll, forecasting sales, management in general. There are a lot of different areas that are covered.

Cons

Horrible hours close then open sheduling 2pm-12am then 6am-4pm holidays weekends Schedule is likely to change mid way through the week, so forget about planning all together. Pay is on the low side. Excessive amounts of manual labor. 10 hour days often with short or no lunch breaks. The store managers have almost complete control over your career.

Pros

Food Lion allows a lot of flexibility in scheduling. They allow you to work when you are availiable to do so. In this regard it is an excellent job for people who have other time commitements.

Cons

The downsides of Food Lion are basically the same as working for in any customer service position. The largest downside would be working non-standard hours such as evenings, weekends, and holidays, but this is to be expected for a customer service position. Food Lion is upon 364 days a year with the exception being Christmas Day and early closing on Thanksgiving.

Pros

The company is moving in a positive direction, in terms of store growth. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement. I like the movement the company has made toward training, but am dubious as to whether they will actually follow through with their commitments.

Cons

Not enough focus is given to training. When the bottom line begins to look a little shaky, training is the first thing to go. NOt enough emphasis given to customer service...we are told the company is focusing on this, but we are tasked to death along other lines. I personally feel nickelled and dimed to death....I am able to accomplish 95% of my job, and accomplish it well...but am graded on the other 5 percent. Too willing to take a person's free time. Too many commitments to outside efforts--charitable efforts are to be commended--but when they're taking 20 hours of store time a week, it becomes a grind.
