Pros

I work in a small office that only has about 600 expected returns for this season. My TL and DGM are really lax with us because there's only 3 Tax Pro's working here (on a staggered schedule) and I'm on the person on front desk. I've been granted the ability to clock as much OT as I want out of this office. By Comparison, an office 12 miles away is super strict on OT (different team leader, but same district). I've worn jeans and a hoodie to work during the early season when we had no one in here and it was never an issue. You may want to check which office you're applying for to see how strict it is.

Cons

The DGM can and will go in and change schedules on the weekend, and there is really bad communication from that level to the offices. It's really clear that whoever it is that has promoted the different programs and systems that are used to H&R Block has 0 IT knowledge as integration and usability are terrible at best. Most of the computer equipment is several years (decades even) old. The other problem you'll run into is employees that have been here so long that they refuse to listen to any of the new policies (they change every year) but then expect a non tax pro to know how to file taxes in the new systems, despite that not being in our training. Regular retail type issues with customers and bad attitudes. Expect to get cursed out, hung up on, etc. It can be tough mentally sometimes. Season end bonus is based on district performance, which is made up of several offices (I believe mine has 27 offices I believe). If a single one fails the numbers set by corporate (Clients served, hours worked, and some other random stuff), then the whole district doesn't get a bonus. This also includes if an office is under the required hours needed, OR over. There's a percentage that the offices have to be between for hours worked.

Pros

Flexible schedules and seasonal work for those who want a temporary job. Coworkers and management were great. I recommend to get your experience and leave as soon as you can for better job opportunities.

Cons

Very low wages, hard to get medical benefits, and this is a seasonal job for most people.

Pros

Scheduling is flexible, all the people are very helpful and collaborative when you have a question, client interaction is very satisfying, despite some difficult ones occasionally. Work is interesting.

Cons

It's only seasonal work even though it would be good to do it year round. Doesn't necessarily pay enough for it to be your only source of income unless you've been there for quite a few years and have many many repeat clients so that you can produce revenue for the company above what they pay you in hourly wages. Which I understand the reasoning behind it but still doesn't make it very sustainable as a career type thing. That being said many of the people come back for 20 plus years to keep working here so that definitely says something.
