Stay away from the Membership Service Department

Pros

* Shared online resources. You can learn new things on your own * Incompetent management. Yes, highly incompetent managers (almost all of them in Membership Service Department) can be a Pro at times and might make your job easier. Just go a bit technical or explain them in a language that they actually don't understand, they will approve without thoroughly questioning

Cons

* Salary will be low, hiring process could take Months!.. You will also not have the same dollar for dollar match/401 benefits anymore, as the rest of the staff who were employed before 2014 will maintain their good old benefits * You are never appreciated, even if you work long hours every single day. Virtually no work-life balance, even HMSA HR will claim so. Get ready for working 10+ hours a day, working on the weekends and not getting compensated for any extra work * Managers are narrow minded, have no vision, and they actually never get along among themselves. Especially the female managers are often jealous of anyone who advances in their career, they work effortlessly to put anyone who threatens their position down behind closed doors (you can hear everything they talk behind semi open cubicles and doors on the floor) * No real organizational structure and no one in supervisory level take accountability, instead they always blame Specialists or others down the chain. You are always on your own * Information hoarding and selfish practices. Certain well known people who have been working there 10+ years always know everything first but never share the important changes, policies, or any new information with others, so that they would get the credit and become indispensable. Management, Senior Analysts and even some Specialists are never team oriented, but always look after themselves * Politics, politics, and more politics

Pros

- pay. It's competitive with other carriers. - working with a hard-working team

Cons

There is no work/life balance if you work for this company so please do not come in expecting to work for a company where you will not have much work to do. If anything, you will feel so overwhelmed with work at times that you will wonder why management doesn't hire more people. The people who do the best within the company are those who can put in the long hours to finish their tasks and deal with very high stress levels (I'm dead serious here, do not think that I left because I couldn't deal with a little bit of stress). I have seen too many smart and driven individuals broken down and in tears due to unrealistic expectations, insane workloads, and abruptly leaving the company, even without securing another job first because the stress is that bad. Management is out of touch with employees. They do not understand what their employees do or do the work themselves, so they vastly oversimplify and have unrealistic expectations of how quickly tasks can be completed. If you cannot complete the work in the declared time frame, you will be spoken to about it, no matter how ridiculous the time frame was. You will not win the argument, so explaining/defending yourself will be futile and lead to retaliation. Turnover is very high for the reasons I've stated above... and hiring isn't as fast.

Pros

good, kind and affectionate people. very friendly always willing to help.

Cons

not a competitive workplace. even though management knows your value to the company, they won't be fair with the salary. unless you offer to quit, you don't get raise regardless of how efficient you are. this is a place for salesman. whoever can sell themselves better regardless of you do any work, would get recognized and rewarded.
