Pros

The work is not very complicated and for my particular office, the co-workers support each other when issues arise. There is a great deal of flexibility in terms of working hours and periods of leave. Most offices are pretty small (around 10-15 people) so interaction with co-workers and management are high.

Cons

The reputation of customer service is not very high throughout the campus and sometimes students/customers treat the staff poorly when they are dissatisfied. Management overall tends to be disconnected with the rest of the staff. They tend to sit in their offices and do not seem very productive. At times the management fail to inform their staff about particular processes or procedures and the staff suffers the consequences (dissatisfied student, more work to fix something, etc).

Pros

Harper College has amazing benefits.

Cons

The Dean from a particular department is a Bully. They lost the entire sales force because of the Deans leadership style. People are afraid of their own shadow. I do find it very curious that I was out educating the community about the importance of effective communication, conflict resolution and embracing diversity in the workplace and yet this business is not practicing this themselves. Colleagues yell at one another in lieu of having a conversation. You are reminded daily that there is a 6 month probation period. This probation period was not shared until I started the job. The Dean of this one department also changes policies from moment to moment and will not have a direct conversation with the new employees. Instead, they will share their thoughts with another colleague and have that person share the communication.

Pros

Talented faculty and committed employees. Wonderful students.

Cons

Administration is way out of touch with employees and students. Especially upper administration. Lots of lip service about diversity and inclusion but no meaningful action.
