Pros

None that I can think of.

Cons

-hostile environment for people of color -layoffs had a negative effect on employee morale causing colleagues to distrust one another and have paranoia about job security -too many administrators and initiatives and not enough support staff to carry out immediate and longterm projects -numerous employee classes in different unions caused strain and stagnation in daily operations -corporate atmosphere focused on the 'bottom line' - institution more concerned about numbers, i.e., graduation and persistence rates with no attention paid to disaggregated data of success rates for vulnerable students such as first-generation, African American, Hispanic/Latin(x) students, etc.

Pros

Great to reduce cost of tuition while attending classes; met people from all walks of life; most colleagues genuinely enjoyed assisting students.

Cons

Not many advancement opportunities on the administrative side. Budget cuts & bureaucracy led to tensions, gossip, backstabbing and uncertainty in the workplace.

Pros

There is ample opportunity to work directly with department supervisors and be given a great deal of responsibility in your job, regardless of whether you're working in a lab or a theater. It also looks like they're doing a better job paying decent wages relative to rest of the industry in Chicagoland.

Cons

Sometimes the people that make decisions are not your direct supervisor or even remotely familiar with the department in which you work, which can lead to frustration and higher turnover. (When I worked there for $9.50/hr(when I started) to 10.50/hr(when I left), the rest of the industry was paying at least $13/hr for identical positions).
