Pros
The new facilities in downtown Houston are state of the art. There are a lot of very nice hard working people. The company is not only financially stable, it is growing.
Cons
In my opinion, this is not a very family friendly company. It seems very rigid to me. If you work in the corporate office, there is a nine-hour work day and there are no flex hours. You may also get phone calls and emails from your manager over the weekend for non-emergency things. It all seemed very demanding to me. I don’t think there’s much of a corporate culture at J.B. Poindexter. I can’t remember there ever being a company picnic or a Christmas party or any kind of an organized outing. But recently they have started celebrating birthdays once a month. And other than a paycheck, I don’t think you’ll ever receive any other form of appreciation for your work. It seems to me that the style of management that this company embraced was the brute force method. On the project that I was on, I don’t think there was ever very much planning or good project management. It seemed like a very political environment and there was low morale.
