Pros

Great Culture: January has a great culture. The people are not only very smart, but also genuinely care about the product and the company's mission. Continuous Learning: As part of the Gen AI team for the past 7 months, I can attest that every day presents a new learning curve. It's both exciting and rewarding to apply the latest in General AI to real-world challenges in the health tech domain. Transformative Product: January is going through a transformation. Being a part of this transformation has been both an honor and an adventure. Management: Collaborative Culture: The camaraderie and collaboration within the entire team are noteworthy. Stable Company: The company has a good runway and funds to continue its mission. Final Thoughts: For those who are passionate about diving deep into cutting-edge technology and witnessing the tangible impact of their work, January is the place to be. I see myself working here

Cons

Resource Allocation: January has a lot of cool and innovative ideas, there can be limitations in resources which sometimes demands wearing multiple hats. It requires adaptability and a constant learning mindset to keep up.

Toxic and Hopeless Workplace

Pros

- decent cash compensation - easy place to coast at since management is not skilled enough to identify when employees are slacking

Cons

- almost all engineering managers leave around 1 year mark, including multiple EMs with prior successful exits as founder/CTO. - most decisions are made by part-time "advisors" for whom this job is a low priority side gig. - chaotic project management - lower than average healthcare & benefits, no 401k matching - CEO will expect you to attend meetings at all hours from 6am to midnight - most work is done by overseas contractors - no regular feedback/performance cycles

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate constructive criticism and the opportunity to address concerns about the professional challenges our employees may face. However, there seem to be some misconceptions in your review that we'd like to clarify: -We take pride in providing a comprehensive benefits package that competes favorably with large companies in the industry. This includes a 401k corporate matching of 4% for all our employees. If you need help setting up your 401k match, please contact HR. -Our employees' well-being is a top priority for us, and we neither expect nor require employees to attend meetings outside of normal business hours. -We take employee growth and development seriously. As part of this commitment, we conduct regular performance reviews, including a new standard for mid-year reviews that was introduced last year. Currently, we only employ two offshore contractors (out of around 15 engineers). We’re still actively hiring engineers located in the United States. As a startup, we heavily rely on our talented engineers to drive innovation and create impactful products. We would love to explore ways to further engage and involve you in our exciting journey. Please don't hesitate to communicate with us so that we can work together to enhance your experience as part of our team.

A great place to make a difference

Pros

January is a small company with the resources of a large company. We have the advantage of being nimble, but with the safety nets that are often not afforded to startups. While AI and health are now sexy fields, that wasn't always the case. This means that the people who are here, really want to be here. Everyone takes ownership and wants to see the company succeed in a big way. By far the best part of my job, though, is working with our CEO, Noosheen Hashemi. She's not only a fount of knowledge and experience, but she's one of the kindest and most generous people I've ever met. She constantly goes out of her way for employees, and a common refrain from her during 1:1s is, "I want to make sure you're having a good time here." It makes no rational sense for a person who'd already achieved her level of success to embark upon a grueling startup journey––but she embodies the missionary mindset that characterizes our company culture, and her passion is infectious and highly motivating.

Cons

Honestly, not many. I've worked my fair share of trivial, paper-pushing roles where I had the appearance of being busy without making a substantial impact. This is probably the hardest job I've worked, both in terms of the intellectual and time demands, but it's immensely cool to be making a substantial contribution.
