R&D is a great environment but the business side of it seems a mess. Battle Creek and surrounding area subtract from any benefits of working for Kellogg.
Pros
Great coworkers, managers that are eager to develop employees, and lots of free food. They are really working to make sure employees have enough time outside of work to get things done. Kellogg tries very hard to match their actions to what their views are and sometimes they succeed. Pay is on the higher end of the pay scale but they sometimes make you come in at a lower level to "gain experience".
Cons
Battle Creek and the surrounding area are no place for someone unmarried and/or without children and offer few jobs for spouses of those who are married. The Kalamazoo area has gotten a little better in the last few years but not to the point of being able to hold on to top talent. Everything is a drive and the towns basically shut down during the winter. Unless you love hunting, fishing, or farming there isn't much year-round fun to be had. On top of this a massive reorganization is happening (plant closings, consolidating jobs, etc.) and everyone is on edge. There was a large population of folks that had been with Kellogg for 25+ years when I first started but this reorg is either convincing them to retire or forcing them to causing a rather large brain drain across the company.
