Employees spread too thin

Pros

Exposure to diverse student populations; great benefits; holidays; pleasant working environment

Cons

Unfortunately, senior management is entirely too focused on the bottom line to notice that core staff is increasingly overworked, underpaid, and undervalued. Creativity and innovation are frowned upon, albeit indirectly. Instructional quality is sacrificed when students are packed in to centers, particularly during the summer months. Management ineffectively communicates with center staff.

Pros

I really feel like I am creating the magic of learning. Seeing the results produced from my work are wonderful. I feel like I am making a difference for each student regardless of age. School partnerships is a wonderful way to spread the opportunity to learn for those that wouldn't otherwise get the chance in a regular educational setting. The employees (non-management) are a delight to be around, always positive and encouraging.

Cons

As a Consultant, you are overworked and severely underpaid for the amount of work you do. The upper-management often conceal secrets to gain power over the rest of the staff, even if it is regarding you. They play favorites, often promoting people who do not deserve it and not developing those that need it, even if they have the potential to be great. You get chastised for giving your opinion on certain practices within each center even if you are working for the greater good. Often the "leaders" of the center act like teenage girls in the way they handle politics and communicating information.

Pros

Working with a variety of children

Cons

Cannot count on consistent hours. Hours change real time; expected to be "flexible" that management has just reduced your income
