A Year of Growth and Room for Improvements

Pros

1. Freedom in the direction of project based work; It’s like a collaborative choose your adventure most of the time. 2. High reliance and trust in individual contributors to complete projects and course correct when their path isn’t yielding results. 3. Benefits not only improve my quality of work but also my quality of life outside of work. My health and the health of my family, experiences outside what I'd ever expected in a company, and tools to help me do my job effectively.

Cons

1- Not all teams are work towards company goals in ways that I understand. 2- In my experience, some people at Lose It have a hard time separating their emotions/opinions from what’s right for the company; I am guilty of doing this as well but actively trying to see beyond myself. To be clear: this isn't all people or all the time, just sometimes frustrating.

We’re glad to hear you are feeling you have the autonomy and agency to make decisions about your work at Lose It!. Supporting our employees to work independently and have ownership of projects from start to finish has always been a principle of our company and something we continue to preserve and build on as we grow. Creating a culture of balance has also been in our DNA from the start and is something we have been able to maintain as we’ve grown from a start-up to a stable business. Thanks for recognizing our progress. In planning for 2021, we have been thinking a lot about some of the issues you bring up, specifically employees not feeling like they have an understanding of how work teams tie up to company goals. We’re proactively working on this feedback by taking a look at all activities around the company to ensure they are aligned to our goals. We’re looking at different ways of working next year to focus the entire company even more on the mission of the business. As a team who is driven by purpose, emotions sometimes lead and drive us forward but at the end of the day, we do have to keep the best interest of the company in mind by choosing to make decisions based on “we” vs. “me”. We lead with humility in this work and try to ensure we are making and explaining decisions without diminishing the passion behind our ideas. Keep an eye out for our progress and please continue to let us know how we’re doing. We look forward to making Lose It! a place you choose to come to work every day for years to come.

Pros

When looking for a place you work, I consider mission, culture, people, and the nature of the work. For me, Lose It! is a rare find that ticks all the boxes: a product that makes a difference and helps people live healthier lives; a fun, exciting, startup-y casual culture; really smart, hardworking people who love what they do; and the opportunity for me to contribute by doing work that I love.

Cons

The only real downside is that the company is in Boston and I’m not a fan of winter :(
