Medstar CVS prescription plan dropping Zepbound

Pros

If you hardly need to use your health insurance then MedStar offers inexpensive medical plans.

Cons

If you need to use your health insurance meaning you have a medical emergency, have medical issues or need expensive prescriptions, MedStar health plans are not for you. MedStar keeps increasing the deductible and co-pays on their Carefirst PPO plan. In addition, CVS Caremark is the only prescription coverage option and they are a nightmare to deal with. You must go to a CVS pharmacy or a MedStar pharmacy for prescriptions. Only for 2025, will they allow you to get prescriptions at Walgreens. In addition, I received a letter in the mail from CVS Caremark that they were dropping Zepbound and now I will have to pay $500/month if I want to continue with my prescription. They said other employer plans still cover Zepbound but not the MedStar Health CVS Caremark plan. I wish I would have just purchased my insurance through the marketplace even those plans cover my prescription.

Pros

Benefits and PTO are good.

Cons

Terrible communication among management and staff. The DC location is in charge of all the VA locations, and it causes a lot of problems. Huge lack of staff, way too much work for the pay. They cap salaries. They changed the job descriptions last year when they got bought out to be more vague and make it acceptable to blend job responsibilities without getting in trouble. A medical assistant is now also expected to do the job of prior auths, front desk, and administrative assistants. Everyone keeps quitting because they are so burnt out after a year or 2.

While we’re glad that you are pleased with our comprehensive benefits package and personal time off, it’s disheartening to hear that you are not satisfied with other aspects of your employment. We will certainly pass along your concerns to the most appropriate leaders on our team. We value your feedback and are committed to making improvements that will help our associates succeed.
