Pros

As of 2017: - more flexibility on time (probably b/c of all these glassdoor reviews about work life balance) - more aggressive training and development - 20 plus pto days - lots of social functions

Cons

- if you're not billing that month, don't expect to go home on time - minimum 60 hours work week - now they rank you on the wall every month to see who is #1 and who is bottom (competitive culture is what they claim) - they also rank your KPIs to make sure you're not dozing off at work - during pto, still required to work b/c if you lose a deal due to your absence - extensive use of profanity, millennial culture, sales shark mentality, clique structure, overly stressed job 24/7 - can't take lunch as group anymore since there needs to be at least one person to "man the phones" (yeah, like clients don't like their lunch times too?) - you think turnover rate is still high? sure! now add management turnover rate to the list! - NY corporate is always trying to bring in new "leaders" from across the pond and it doesn't work b/c of cultural clash - strong managers go independent and don't want the hassle of a team underneath them (kudos to them) - we have 22-25 year olds holding manager titles b/c there is lack of seniority in the structure (some do deserve it) - you're always moving teams so don't get comfortable. I've seen and heard some people get moved more than 3 times in one year (luckily I was only moved once) - corporate likes to send their regional managers down from time to time and give us a boost of motivation (expect more vulgarity, verbal harassment, shunned among your colleagues, and a beating) - nothing has changed from reviews posted in 2014 We were supposed to increase headcount this year, but instead we lost a handful of people this last quarter in 2017. Obviously the brand is global so MP will try to keep a strong stature, but please really listen to reviews like these. If you love sales without being commissioned then go for it. What's the worst that can happen? You'll see.

Recruitment is a performance-based, sales environment regardless of the company or the city you are in. This is not a justification, this is the plain truth. From the get-go, we are extremely transparent about our expectations and the need to deliver upon the targets and activity levels we set. These requirements are put in place so our people can succeed even beyond their own expectations, and quite understandably this culture does not suit certain personality types. We do not believe in sugarcoating the fact that recruitment is a demanding industry. To my next point, if employees answer emails during PTO, it’s purely because they are extremely motivated and take pride in what they do. These are the characteristics we look for when hiring new Recruitment Consultants. In further regard to the culture, teamwork is something we proudly encourage – our Directors, Managers and Consultants form bonds that make the working environment not only productive, but enjoyable. Our Management team invests in and views their team members as way more than “just a number”. Each person in our office is treated with dignity and respect . You are correct in mentioning some of our Managers are in their twenties, as merit is what we base our promotions on, not age. But contrary to your feedback, we believe there is much to gain from millennials and more seasoned employees comprising our management team. PageGroup hires diverse groups of people - be it straight out of college or from “across the pond.” We value all our people and their unique perspectives, and we believe their idiosyncrasies and insights are beneficial to the business. One of the bonuses of working at PageGroup is the ability to transfer to one of our many offices across the country or across the globe. Relocation is something we pride ourselves on being able to provide our employees, and we have found our employees indeed relish the opportunity. Thank you. Richard Vickers, Regional Managing Director.

Pros

This is a good environment if you are planning on being a workaholic and want to spend all of your time with your coworkers. Very black and white promotion targets. Transparent about salary and bonuses - everyone knows what everyone is making. If you're seeing high ratings on Glassdoor for this company, it is because it is something their employees are supposed to do to jack up the ratings.

Cons

When interviewing at Michael Page, consultants are literally told to tell candidates whatever they need to hear to accept a job offer which is exactly how they got me. The recruiter there told me it was a 9-5 job and if you got all of your work done you could leave earlier. That was NOT the case whatsoever. "Work hard-play hard" and "performance-based culture" are just words they use to sell you in. They are not true at all. A typical day is 8am-7pm and if you arrive or leave earlier than those times - people will judge you and give you serious trouble for it - even if they aren't your manager. In addition, the 20 days of PTO is something that they use to sell people in on. I tried to utilize my 20 days since they do not get paid out or rolled over to the next year and I was scolded by my boss. He told me that management looks at how many PTO days people have left and it shows how committed they are to the business. One of my colleagues had 18 PTO days left at the end of the year. 18. Part of that is due to the fact that even if you do utilize your PTO, your phone will be ringing non-stop from colleagues all day to ask you questions about deals or candidates. I went on a 4-day vacation and my boss and people on my team called me 20 times, and that is not an exaggeration. The pay is also great at Michael Page, BUT when you look at it from an hourly perspective, it is not worth it at all. As a recruitment consultant working 55 hours a week, that averages to about $13/hour. And again, if you work less than that, you will be scolded. Whether it be from peers or from your manager. In addition, Michael Page basically lets anyone be a manager if they bill enough money, even people with no leadership skills whatsoever. They also foster a very micromanaging work-environment. My boss was constantly looking over my shoulder, listening into my calls, and we had check-ins 3 times a day to see how I was doing. Outside of work, specifically, people are mean. Most people there think that this job is just an extension of Frat/Sorority life and act as such. While I was working there, I saw people talking poorly about coworkers on our office instant-messaging platform. Very unprofessional, toxic, and anxiety-causing office. I would not wish it upon my worst enemy to work here.

Recruitment, which is a sales career, is an industry that requires dedication, resilience, and passion. Since sales environments can be inhospitable for anyone who does not possess the drive to succeed, we are entirely transparent throughout the hiring process in regard to what the Recruitment Consultant position entails. I interview every candidate who joins our business and make it a point to be clear about the amount of work required to be successful within our environment. Because of the opportunity we offer to advance your career and compensation at an uncapped level our expectations, are high, but realistic, and have been exceeded hundreds of times over. Employee satisfaction is a top priority, and though this job can be demanding, we insist our employees take advantage of the PTO afforded to them. In addition, we encourage our employees to work smarter hours instead of longer hours. There is only one person in our business of 45 people who consistently works the hours that you mentioned. Employees are held accountable to results, not hours in the office. We celebrate efficiency, organization, and strategy which are the keys to attaining flexibility, and this is within every employee’s grasp. Furthermore, we at PageGroup value and understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration. In regard to the “work hard, play hard” mentality you mention, PageGroup believes a united team with strong bonds forged on a variety of levels will effectively yield the results we are seeking as an organization. This approach has been tried and true at PageGroup for over four decades. Thank you - Charlie Ginzburg, Director, Chicago.
