-Mitchell is a software company from the 80s trying to be agile and cloud based. Product portfolio was stagnated for years due to some VPs of Product who didn't listen to customers (they have since been fired).
-The industry is boring, like watching paint dry boring.
-Too strong an emphasis on hiring from ivy league schools as indicated by Alex finally firing his ivy league school business unit leaders over the past few years.
-HR is very process driven, too much advice from management consultants on how to manage human capital. When you are hired, you are hired into a salary range. Hard to move the needle in terms of raises within your salary range (think 2-5% maximum growth YoY). Yeah, that is inflation.
-Internally, it is kind of like class warfare. If you are a Director (starting at $120K-$180K per year) or higher, things are good. You have direct access to upper management like VPs and C-level regardless of biz unit. Below Director level, it is difficult to move upward.
-Very political, like very. Some VPs have been there for 20+ years and guess what, they are not going anywhere. If they don't like you, regardless of performance, you won't move (vertically or laterally).
-Similar to above, people grow up here (10+ year tenures). But if you want to grow exponentially in a short amount of time, don't be like these dinosaurs. 2-3 years max, then move on.
-Entry level guys earn $35K-45K per year (customer service). Individual performers earn anywhere from $65K-$110K per depending on specialty (sales vs operations vs product vs engineering). Managers and Directors earn $110K-$190K. VPs and up earn $250K+ per year easily. Mitchell pays, negotiate well.
