Pros

Benefits package is decent, people are nice, and the overall goal at upper management level is admirable (yet unrealistic as it is all talk with no walk)

Cons

If NFP acquires your agency, abort immediately unless you want to live through an on boarding process to the NFP life that is full of empty promises. You will have no support from management because they ore overworked, managing their own books of business while trying to juggle management duties and your head will be spinning there is so much to do, with not enough time. When you express your obstacles to management they tell you how great of a job you are doing and that they will get you assistance soon. 2 years later and still no help. They have no standard procedures to make sure your office is following NFP’s expectations. They finally set you up with there technology and it always has problems. If your office uses a different agency management system, even if it is EPIC, they take forever to roll your accounts into their system. When they do, it is with very little warning, and in the case of our office was right at a heavy renewal season. So they have no one in other offices to provide assistance on your accounts (something that was promised). When they finally did have some support, the people would do it wrong so we’d have to fix the mistakes. They also have no easy way to track your offices sales and retention so they expect you to dissect your book and create ridiculous spreadsheets. The management of the office we reported to all quit or were let go, except for one person, who was a fantastic person. But, she was tasked with the duties of all of the other managers, so now she really had no time to answer your calls or respond to your emails. Overall, it is a long transition and it could have been so much better. I am so happy to no longer work for NFP.

Pros

NFP Corporate emphasizes putting "People First" and reflects great culture and values. Benefits are decent with low premium, employer HSA contribution and 401K match. PTO is good with tenure.

Cons

Seems like the culture and values of NFP have still not made their way to the Utah location. Local management has the final say regarding which policies are enforced and how. There is minimal flexibility and it constantly feels like big brother is watching and, even in sales positions, it's well known that you're expected to be in the office 5 minutes early and stay 5 minutes late (except for certain individuals who have had made themselves the exception). This is the case even when negotiated prior to employment. The majority of local management is male and they have created the pretense of an "open door policy," but there is no follow through on concerns presented to them. Employees must contact corporate HR to have concerns heard and addressed appropriately. It is very difficult to move up within this location as the majority of leadership roles had been claimed prior to the acquisition. Directors have a P&L budget and ensure that they select potential employees who do not know their worth in order to take advantage of a lower-than-industry-average salary. In addition, furthering your education, credentials, and licensing is not encouraged, and instead it feels like they discourage this in order to not have to compensate for time, educational expense, or added value (salary increases). Overall there is a very poor work/life balance at the Utah location; thus creating a high turnover of skilled employees and room for lower-paid entry level prospects.
