Pros

The students deserve to have a fulfilling experience. Many faculty members bend over backwards to get this to happen.

Cons

HR put everyone on a ridiculous new review process and pushed for us to learn their new software in April!! Only for them to send an email saying no reviews until January 2020! If you want your workload to increase annually but your pay to stay the same, come to NLU! Where people call it No Logic University and you can run in circles for peanuts. Also, if you want a work-life balance, run far from this place. Leadership turns a blind eye to the fact that everyone works nights and weekends for apparently no raise.

Thank you for your feedback and for recognizing our commitment to our students. The Office of Human Resources is always looking to improve and streamline our review processes and acquired this new software to add depth and efficiency to our review cycles in time for FY18 review cycle. Annual reviews are conducted based on our fiscal year which runs from July to June. While we welcome the opportunity to address salary questions, it might be better to do so on an individual basis, since there are many factors that go into these decisions. Please reach out to our Human Resource department for further clarification and so we can address your specific concerns.

Pros

My supervisor and her boss are highly ethical, kind, and great motivators. I trust them and have learned a lot from them. I see that our overall management team is striving to develop more leaders like the two of them and build a more collaborative, supportive culture. I am busy every day. For some people, that might be a Con, but I enjoy being highly engaged each day and the feeling of having accomplished a lot by the end of every day. The PTO and benefits are very good/competitive for area colleges and universities. This includes tuition benefits after 6 months of employment.

Cons

As a staff member, you are expected to accomplish A LOT with very few resources. On top of the high expectations, the pay is mediocre. Honestly, for a non-profit university, this institution has very high turnover in its staff. That can make building a positive environment and culture of collegiality very difficult. And while *my* bosses are awesome, a lot of the upper management has been there for far too long and have so much pressure on them that they don't have enough time to invest in their employees. Nor do they have time for their own professional development, so their management/leadership styles can be less than inspiring. I know of a handful of staff members who specifically left due to the "bullying" style of an upper manager in the Enrollment Department who has been known to make people cry. They literally, really, actually will enroll anyone with a pulse. Doesn't exactly make you feel like you're contributing to something special when their admissions standards are so low.

Thank you for your honesty. We truly appreciate you and all of your colleagues in our Enrollment Department and it's great to hear of the respect you have for your manager!! NLU is committed to providing an environment of respect and collegiality - please seek out HR for guidance if your environment isn't.

Pros

This "school" is a joke. I sis did not experience any pros.

Cons

The President's four top minions are white males, completely out of touch with the POC experience. Don't dare oppose or suggest alternatives with the president or you will be out of a job. Ask for a salary increase and HR will laugh in your face. Students are not taught or encouraged to have self-respect nor respect the space of others and as a result, many behave in an ignorant, loud, and disrespectful manner. Low pay High turnover TOXIC work environment Employees in upper administrative positions with ZERO experience in their positions and poor people management skills. White males prevail at NLU despite what HR may say on this sight regarding diversity. Name one woman of color not in an assistant position who works closely with the president.

While it is distressing for us to read your feedback, we appreciate and value the time you took to bring your concerns to our attention. We take comments like yours seriously and regret that you feel so negatively about the diversity, culture and leadership at NLU. While no institution or work environment is perfect we recognize that the NLU community and its educational philosophy are built on a high regard for the cultures, backgrounds, experiences and dignity of each person. We strive to embrace and build upon the strength that comes from a diverse student body, faculty and staff.
