Pros

Most coworkers are enjoyable to work with, however Netsmart creates an unnecessary competitive environment between business groups that creates tension.

Cons

I have been at Netsmart for over 3 and each year I am more disappointed in the path Netsmart is going. Being in the field of technology and healthcare, a company has to make changes to stay valuable. However, Netsmart can not handle the changes. We are consistently trying to developed new products/services, which is good. However we never fully "fix" our existing products. And worse, we tell our clients that the answer to their problematic solution from Netsmart is to purchase another service or product. Netsmart claims to be the leader in our field, however I would expect that a true leader would have clients that respected them. About 50% to 60% of Netsmart clients say that they would not recommend Netsmart.

Netsmart Response

This is Carol Reynolds, the SVP of Client experience at Netsmart. I would love to discuss this with you. My door is always open to any Netsmart associate or client. Healthcare has experienced more change in the past 5 years than it did in the previous 50. As we move from a pay for quantity world in healthcare to a pay for quality so many things are changing at once. This drives a complete rethink throughout the entire healthcare ecosystem. These changes ripple through financial, clinical and operational aspects of healthcare. The way you did things last year – isn’t going to work this year. This impacts all our clients and all of Netsmart – all of healthcare. The benefits to healthcare of all of these changes is tremendous through saved $$’s and better outcomes. The national coordinator, Karen DeSalvo recognizes the impact to healthcare…” American healthcare is in a state of unprecedented change” I am glad that you recognize the volume of new solutions we are releasing, and assisting our clients by being early to market with things like ICD10 and a 2014 ONC certified version of our solutions. Our R&D dollars hit an all time high in 2013 with our investment in our CareRecords with over 4000 new components added just to the CareRecords included as part of maintenance to our clients. My life is keeping a pulse on our clients, making sure we delight them and are leading the industry. My datapoints do not match your datapoints. I love hearing the good comments about what we are doing, but I have to hear those where you think we have problems. Please, lets talk. Carol

Pros

Smart and knowledgeable people are working at Netsmart. They are at the heart of this organization.

Cons

A sales driven organization that has many diverging product lines mostly due to acquisition. Netsmart is not equipped to support or implement the products it sells. The customers are frustrated and the software is full of bugs. There is a lot of smoke and mirrors here, but the majority of the time Netsmart is putting out fires due to poor implementations and buggy software. Even then the workflows and escalation procedures are lacking. To this day Netsmart is trying to figure out the balancing act of managing sales and support. The Netsmart corporate offices are strategically located in Overland Park, KS and Great River, NY this is to keep the salaries low. There are no bonuses and incentives for employees. When evaluating the industry standards for comparable positions, Netsmart salaries are significantly lower. There is also a lot of disconnect between departments. You have a lack of workflow, information exchange and defined processes. Netsmart management loves to have meetings about everything, most of which amount to empty promises and ideas that never make it into daily operations. Leadership is engaged when there is an issue and then quickly fade into the background. Employees often must make decisions out of frustration because management is not actively engaged.
