Pros

reliable income, occasional bonuses, certainly some nice hard working people to work with. Benefits are average when compared to other healthcare systems in the area. In particular, when I reviewed openings and public salary information for equivalent positions at OSU, pay is relatively higher (about 5-10%)

Cons

the main chemistry line(s) broke regularly (1-2x per week on average) and required service to come in, which really backed things up when 10,000+ specimens are coming through daily. A lot of old equipment which needs to be replaced but management often opts to prioritize bringing in other analyzers first in spite of this The IT department situation is terrible since they outsourced the who department overseas, and it makes even simple changes or issues almost impossible to resolve in a reasonable amount of time. I often spent an hour+ on the phone with the new IT group to solve an issue the old IT group (before it was outsourced) could have completed in a about a quarter of the time. During the 4 years I spent there the quality of work life progressively decreased in a variety of ways. I felt as if I showed a lot of initiative and interest in improving my department, but my interest in making a significant contribution was never reciprocated with greater opportunities or practical appreciation

Pros

Healthcare company means that they provide many opportunities to improve and take care of your health. This includes biometric bonuses to your paycheck, a healthy HSA with a low deductible, and a huge network to get the healthcare you need.

Cons

IS at this company has been on a lengthy hiring freeze, leading to no raises, promotions or backfilling at all. Even after recovering from the pandemic, changes and exceptions have not been made. This leads to folks leaving for other, better opportunities, often being told “money isn’t the only thing that matters”, then leadership not having the ability to backfill. Cycle of continuing understaffing and overworking with no end in sight. Mid level leadership often points the finger at senior leadership, and no changes have been made.

Pros

Benefits, Good co-workers, Charting system

Cons

I loved working for Ohiohealth when I first started. As the pandemic has continued, it has become very clear that they value profits more than they value retaining staff or creating a safer work environment. We are taking care of sicker and sicker patients without an increase in support or resources. Acuity is becoming unsafe for the staffing we have. Ohiohealth pretends they appreciate their employees with cheap gifts, rather than actually making changes to improve work for the staff and compensate them appropriately to improve morale and keep employees working for them.
