      From Positivity to Toxicity

      Used to have good culture and work-life balance.

      Cons

      Since the major leadership changes in June/July 2023, Ookla's once-positive work culture has drastically eroded, resulting in a disrespectful and toxic environment. The new leadership's failure to grasp the company's legacy and dismissive attitude toward employee ideas have fostered an atmosphere lacking transparency and trust. Employees who were once valued now feel marginalized and disrespected. Regrettably, the current situation raises concerns, and potential candidates should approach with caution.

      Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view

      • Used to be a cool little mom & pop shop before all the acquisitions • I met an alchemist here, who supported and helped me learn how to transform lead into gold

      Cons

      • "Leadership" via fear and public humiliation • I often felt confused, scared, sad, and not a part of "us" while working here due to poor communication and lack of trust + respect (2-ways streets which I also negatively contributed towards) • My best technical "gift" is breaking stuff and failing forward, however, I lacked a sense of psychological safety to do so here • I didn't feel respected nor that folks listened to my proposed alternatives to "business as usual" (and I often couldn't care less for "business as usual")

      Culture is being destroyed by parent company, getting rid of previous leaders and replacing them with company men and loyalists. Massive layoffs are incoming.
