What happened to us, PLI?

Pros

PLI used to be one of the best places to work in Asheville. I was proud of my work here and proud of my company. We all thought of ourselves as important members of a well-oiled machine. The care we had as employees was reflected in our commitment to finding solutions for our customers' needs and delivering on time, every time. As a result to this approach, our profits zoomed upwards year over year.

Cons

This leads me to ask, what happened to us here at PLI? - Sales are off and the finger gets point at us. - Morale is at its lowest point ever. - People no longer trust one another. - Due to the fear of hostile retaliation, employees are more prone to suppress their frustrations than vocalize them. As a result, we don't know to whom we should take our valid concerns regarding the health and strength of our organization. We know to not dare approach HR about worrisome internal issues, so PLI's dirty laundry gets posted on public sites. - Management's always tilling away at imagined windmills and trying for the quick fix. We seem to be missing something vital and crucial that we once had, but are now lacking. Whatever it is, we need it back.

Leadership and HR have a nice story

Pros

Company came to Las Vegas in January of 2015 when they acquired the LV production facility from CPI Card Group. They kept/re-hired about 265 employees out of about 325; in essence saving those jobs. PLI then invested $5 million dollars into upgrading the LV equipment. Peter Krauss (CEO) has a public speaking talent.

Cons

Many of the jobs here are $11 to $12/hr positions. The company constantly promotes 'employee owned' to new employees, but it takes years to actually get 'ownership shares'. Pay increases are few and far between. No 401k matching. Medical is very expensive if you have a family.

PLI (Plasticard - Locktech International) Response

PLI was pleased and excited to bring the Las Vegas plant in to the our corporate family and that so many employees were able to keep working. We take pride in how the Las Vegas plant has grown and evolved over the past year, but it is, as with everything, is work in progress. We will continue to forge a path for the Las Vegas plant with the foundation of our company mission statement. Yes, we preach ESOP to potential employees! It's amazing that we can offer a stake in the company to ALL of our employees. You don't invest a single penny into your ESOP, you only have to show up and do your job the best way you know how. That's all PLI asks of you. 401Ks are great, and we encourage people to use those as well, but if you look at the current numbers, our ESOP is a great return on OUR investment. We are sorry that you have to do a little time before you are 100% vested, but as you know, 401Ks work the same way. You should contact HR immediately so they can help you better understand ESOP and it's potential. Also, it has been stated many times in many meetings that if you feel you deserve a raise, and do not agree with the response that your immediate supervisor has provided you, please go to HR or even the CEO, Peter Krauss, himself. We want to know. As for insurance, PLI pays a large amount of the premium for our employees but has very little control over what non-employees under our plans pay. If you are having difficulty with this, please speak to HR immediately. Our employees are our biggest asset please reach out to HR so PLI can address all of your concerns. We need a happy, healthy group of employees....including YOU!

Pros

PLI is a wonderful place to have fun with your coworkers, some nice perks. Decent pay.

Cons

It is really sad how management always seems to oppress people and take credit for things that the people under them do. Anyone who actually takes tries to make something better either gets completely ignored or their idea stolen with zero credit (of course there is probably some bonus the management gets, but nothing to the employee who took initiative) It's a growing company and 'employee owned'! But you're going to have to spend a very long time there before you get anything of value from it. Raises are usually very little, if any. Even when doing a bangup job. When I started I saw that there were very negative reviews and I dismissed them as "Crazies". Now I think they were spot on. Just as a demonstration, look at how those reviews have so much more in Cons than in Pros
