Pros

Dogs at work....but even they seem to be tiring of it...

Cons

I'm a valued employee. I've always received good evaluations. I do not have an axe to grind, and I'm generally well liked here....but... ...if you are considering a job at corporate ('job' stressed over the word 'career'), I would advise to think again. So many leaders put their own career benefit before the company and their team. Never have I seen a more self-serving culture of mid-to-top leadership. There are a handful of bright stars that seem to care about their team. The ratings from the stores appear great, but the central hub is on fire, and just continues to worsen.

Pros

-get a discount -get a paycheck

Cons

-while senior leadership is slowly making improvement and proposing good ideas, the direct leadership outside the stores (DL/ML/DSL) are unrealistic and out of touch. They rule by threats and fear and speaking down to people. -every single morning, but monday, we start our work day off with a conference call. It is meant as level setting and reviewing the day that was, but its actually a 15-30 min beatdown of how nothing done was good enough. Not enough dt, not enough sales, not enough engagements, etc, and then we start our day feeling rather worthless. This is only 1 of the 10 calls we are subjected to a week as we are over micromanaged. -get paid well if your an external, if your an internal you are not. -send recaps 4 times a day. Don’t expect encouragement from that cause if you don’t sell dt you fail. -got a question? Better figure it out since cannot expect a response when you ask, and go outside chain of command you will be reprimanded. -payroll. Need more. But no one has anyone to help if your short cause everyone is quitting. Running over? Depending who are you is ok. -we get to spend more time in office filling out metric trackers no one else has to. But don’t be in the office! They will be watching on the cameras! -being told district does not have a good reputation. -micromanaged through fear and intimidation tactics. -being watched on cameras now apparently. Everything is a gotcha. -being forced to do previously discontinued processes that were cut and so were the hours, eg communications binder. -lies about what is a company expectation vs there own personal agenda and expectation. -

Pros

Environment • Nice building with ample amenities – gym, Starbucks, cafeteria, dog parks, walking trail. • Comfortable office environment – pets at work, California casual dress, sponsored happy hours, work from home capabilities Coworkers • Majority are friendly and focused on directives • Fostered collaboration across different areas of company which helps gain a broader understanding of goals • Established sense of trust between managers and employees (at least from the interactions I have seen) • Consistent interaction with VP/Director level – given good “face time” opportunities

Cons

CONS Benefits • Poor PTO offering (2 weeks’ vacation, 1 week sick) • CA state minimum maternity leave (must use FMLA/vacation for anything longer) • 401k match below par • Health insurance costs above CA average for corporate Resources/Career • Outdated technology that handcuffs us from making sound business decisions across all facets of the enterprise (most notably, our POS system) • Understaffed in key areas, like inventory, which removes all capabilities for analysis and growth for those in that area • No clear hierarchy or career pathing available. Most moves are to “bigger desks” which then cap out at a certain point with no further opportunities • No training for job specific or even company-wide topics/systems except for a 2-day orientation when starting. Operate under a “trial by fire” mentality. Leadership • New CEO comes across as sexist o When confronted with lack of women in C-suite, responded by parading around female hires in a “look – a girl!” sort of way o Both in at company-wide town hall meetings (“hosted members of the leadership team and their wives” - there are female leaders...) as well as in smaller group meetings has offhandedly insinuated that women are lesser/that men are valued more • Clear disconnect on priorities at the top level o The business has become siloed between sales, inventory, marketing, etc. When we solve a problem in one we aren't looking for the upstream issues it may cause in another o Split leadership team with differing objectives has created no clear strategy to act on at the lower levels. There are differing interpretations of what the best course of action is, but we are left to squabble it out among ourselves which is difficult when – again – we have different business objectives that we are marching to.

Thank you for your honest review. We value your opinion. While we’re happy to hear you enjoy the work environment and collaboration across the organization, there are clearly areas where we need to do better like benefits and career pathing. One of your comments about leadership and our CEO warrant clarification. For the record, since joining Petco last June, our CEO, Ron Coughlin, has made inclusion and diversity a top priority, and it’s something all of us at Petco take very seriously. In the past seven months, the company has added three women to the Senior Leadership Team, one to the Board of Directors (all accomplished executives) and provided a whole new level of support for the Empowering Women at Petco resource group. The comment you referenced from a recent Town Hall meeting where Ron spoke about hosting some of the leadership team and the board at his house deserves factual correction. The comment pertained to the board members bringing their wives. This was a direct reference to two male Board members who brought their wives, a statement of fact. Unfortunately, the two female board members did not bring their husbands/significant others. Treating people with dignity and respect and fostering a culture of inclusion, diversity and opportunity for all will continue to be a key focus at Petco. If you have further concerns you’d like to see addressed, we encourage you to share your feedback with your manager or confidentially via the Petco Hotline at 1-888-736-9834 or http://petcohotline.com.
