Pros

Wonderful work environment, coolest employer, great workplace perks, all employees love wildlife and educating the public about conservation, preferential hiring of internal applicants, personal growth, non-profit idealism

Cons

Low pay, inconsistent hours, highly competitive for permanent positions (majority of employees are hired as seasonal), sometimes favoritism by management is an issue , very few full time positions

Pros

Great outdoor work with people, plants and animals. Very inclusive of the employees when making their planning efforts. Competitive salaries and benefits. Very community based.

Cons

Its a service industry and it is easy to be confused by all the talk on conservation. If you put conservation work on a "effectiveness for the dollar" scale, zoos would not rank very high. Your job is to bring in the visitors and make them happy. Keeping animals in captivity is a hard sell for any thinking, feeling person.
