The Workload

Pros

The job has its benefits: good pay, good and upbeat coworkers, an ability to take time off when you’re genuinely sick or your child is sick without having to worry about your job each time. Helping people get their feet back under them after they’ve had an accident can be rewarding.

Cons

The biggest con, and everyone who works in Progressive claims will tell you this, is the workload. The workload is so far and above what any one individual should be asked to do, that it leaves you feeling horrible at the end of each day, like you didn’t get enough done. No matter how hard you work, you will always feel behind. That sense of accomplishment is unfortunately nonexistent in this job. This is true for the PCS claims role and the URBI role. Every coworker I have has expressed the same issue to me, and the anonymous surveys the company does always come back stating too heavy of a workload, and no work/life balance. While giving you this workload, leadership just continues to push “efficiency” instead of just admitting that there is too much work and too few people.

Pros

Great work/life balance. Gainshare (a.k.a. profit sharing). Work from home. Great pay and benefits. 17 days of PTO in first year. 8 paid holidays. Metrics matter but you never feel as if your job is in jeopardy. Coaching and professional development time is always available. Tons of ways to earn or win extra bonuses and prizes.

Cons

Very high stress dealing with customers all day long on back to back calls. A typical day of call volume you'll handle between 50-70 calls of all different natures with only 5 seconds in between calls. You don't sell home insurance but you are required to offer it to customers when the system indicates they are eligible candidates and you have to talk them into being transferred to a home insurance sales person to get a quote. Home insurance transfer metric is the most coached and talked about metric. You will also deal with a high amount of customers who are angry or upset because of their rates and take it out on you. Customers also think they know every facet of insurance and all the laws and they all believe they should have a lower rate, so you will be talking them down off the ledge or off their pedestal a lot. You also have to bid for your shift every year in March, so you're not guaranteed the same shift continuously.

Worst company ever

Pros

Honestly there are no pros! The company will bribe you saying they have several promotional opportunities but in reality they’re on a hiring freeze in several departments.

Cons

The stress level is insane. The job is impossible and the goals are impossible to meet. There is a lot of favoritism in the offices. Management will discuss your business with anyone. Several HR issues in the office and no one seems to do anything or even care about it. The claims adjuster trainee position is horrible! They lack training very bad! Most work days will be 10 hours on a busy day. The culture is horrible. No work life balance at ALL.
