Pros

Being able to volunteer with this program is very simple. Once you get started and have a set location, they give you very simple instructions every day before your session starts. They're very flexible with your schedule.

Cons

I have not experienced any downside from volunteering here. It's a very rewarding volunteer job. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for volunteer experience

Okay Experience, Little Direction,

Pros

It gave me solid experience for a first job out of college. Everyone on the team is really friendly and open to questions. Many of them had done Americorps themselves or something similar and could identify with the experience and give solid advice. Their program is also fantastic and does have incredible results. It definitely helps to know that you're working for a nonprofit that actually works.

Cons

There were way too many times where I felt like I had nothing to do. My managers gave little direction in terms of our actual responsibility and had very low expectations of us. It was honestly really boring most of the time. I felt like since we were technically free labor, they didn't really care about making sure we were actually adding to the team. Plus, when we did have something to do, it was mostly busy work, or sending scheduling emails. The job posting made it seem like we'd have way more interaction with people when in fact we just spent the day staring at a computer screen and waiting for emails to respond to.

Pros

Great reading program to help children who are struggling keeping up with reading at grade level, good supervisor and director of the program. They're very helpful and knowledgable

Cons

Traveling to a school, although not far at all, for only 45 minutes. The travel back and forth sometimes seemed longer than the reading lesson itself.
