Pros

Salary and maybe the awesome health insurance

Cons

This is no structure in the claims department. Plenty of lawsuits in the near future with ridiculously poor claims handling. Process/procedures change daily. Everything is done on Google docs and it’s ridiculously unorganized and confusing. No metrics in place. Their reference guide is “under construction” everyday. It’s ridiculous. Workload is ridiculous. Leadership is always confused.

Hi, there. First and foremost, thank you for your time on Root's Claims team. We're proud of the work we've done so far to unbreak insurance, and we wouldn't be where we are today without your help. While we're glad to hear you were happy with compensation and benefits, we're sorry to hear we fell short in your day-to-day workload. We will look into this feedback and hope the team feels improvements going forward. Wishing you all the best in the future.

Pros

If you're lucky, you have a good manager that can protect you. Mostly it's a boy's club with a 996 mentality.

Cons

It was disastrously overloaded with no plan to make it better. They don't support their employees or protect you from abusive customers. They use unachievable KPIs and metrics to hold you down.

Pros

Some incredibly smart, kind, and hardworking people who genuinely care about doing good work. The company has the potential to be something special if leadership could align their values with their actions.

Cons

Root loves to talk about empowerment, innovation, and people-first values but in practice, those ideals stop short of reality. Development opportunities are extremely limited unless you’re part of the inner circle. Promotions and recognition often come down to who you know, not the quality or consistency of your work. Leadership tends to be reactive rather than strategic, and there’s a growing disconnect between senior leaders and the people actually doing the work. Feedback is requested often but rarely acted on. Employees who voice concerns, whether about culture, fairness, or workload, are often dismissed or quietly sidelined. HR has also lost credibility. Employees who have filed complaints or raised legitimate concerns rarely hear back, and follow-ups are inconsistent at best. It creates an environment where people don’t feel psychologically safe or supported, and that erodes trust across every level of the organization. The culture that once felt modern and people-centered now feels performative. Behind the polished image, many employees are quietly burning out and/or planning their exits.

We see in your review that you've been part of the team for over 5 years. Thank you for your commitment to our mission and for all your contributions to Root during this time. We pride ourselves in promoting a space where our team feels empowered and candor is welcome, so we are concerned to read your feedback. When employees raise concerns, we take them seriously and ensure they’re reviewed appropriately. Because these matters are often confidential, we typically don’t share the specific outcomes or actions taken—but that doesn’t mean they weren’t addressed. If you are comfortable doing so, please connect with me directly. —Katie, People Team VP
