Pros
I had the luxury of being really picky in finding a new opportunity when leaving my old job. I talked to and interviewed at 30 other technology companies in and around Boston before landing at SimpliSafe. I'll admit, at first, I didn't give SimpliSafe much thought thinking it was just another home wireless security company in a saturated space, but in reality, it is a massive player in an extremely fast growing IoT landscape with tremendous upside in terms of market share and partnerships with Amazon, Google, Apple, etc.
Ultimately the best part of the company is that from a technology perspective, the company runs like a startup (fast-paced, agile, cutting edge technology) but is not handicapped by a risky financial foundation. In other words, SimpliSafe is a very rare company where it has been profitable for 5+ years, growing customer base rapidly while running an engineering organization like a startup. The credit goes to fantastic leadership who enforces the startup engineering culture by supporting new ideas, running experiments quickly, pivoting when appropriate, and keeping overhead and bureaucracy to a bare minimum.
Finally, and to his credit, Chad, the founder and CEO, although a brilliant engineer trusts the team and finds the right balance between CEO and founder.
To put it into a list...
- Startup feel
- Financially solid
- Collaborative, open environment
- Work/life balance
- Positive, fun, smart, low overhead work culture
- Entire company is colocated
- Growing fast - both headcount and revenue
Cons
- SimpliSafe is somewhat of a gimmicky name :)
- No 401K program - but they are working on a solution, the problem, as I understand it, is that it is tough to find a 401K program that will match the needs of both full-time call center employees and engineers
