Pros

Awesome modern offices with modern equipment. Your co-workers are amazing by and large.

Cons

The CULTure everyone mentioned is ridiculous. Reform it. You can't lay off 100 people and then expect people should devote their lives to this company. Leadership is absolutely horrendous. They take zero responsibility for their decision and pass all the crap downhill. There is zero process for performance evaluation when it comes to letting people go. You're most likely to succeed by being likable versus providing value. The CTO is probably the worst when it comes to this. He's young, inexperienced, and constantly throwing his team under the bus rather than taking responsibility for decision that he has the final say on (and often overrules any other suggestion anyway. He's also a giant man-child. Grow up, peter pan. The CEO lacks many characteristics that you typically find in a CEO. Instead of showing gratitude for the hard work that his workforce have devoted to the company, he has instead instilled the ideology that this is what is to be expected. Instead of careful planning, company direction is mostly chaotic. A trait that is adopted by many of his lackey's. The company pushes all these "feel good" ideologies like radical candor and many other phrases you can find in their mantra. However "practice what you preach" is not something you'll find here. Being transparent with bad news here and early as possible will likely get you canned. Management wants to hear only good things.

Pros

Spreetail employs some of the smartest and hardest working individuals that I've had the pleasure of meeting in my career. I enjoyed the people that I had the opportunity to work with and still stay in touch with some of them to this day.

Cons

Management is extremely inexperienced and feels threatened by experienced individuals. Throughout the interview process, the company conveys the message that they are hiring candidates for their experience and their ability to make a dent in the universe. In reality, management wants to hire “yes” men and women. If you have a fact-based opinion, it will be ignored if the senior leadership team disagrees. Management tends to bury their heads in the sand and only hear what they want to hear – similar to toddler behavior. Vendor Management is the worst department to work in at Spreetail. The other departments consistently blame Vendor Management for everything that goes wrong. It doesn’t matter if the critically aged software fails (which it does often), if the content team doesn’t build a listing appropriately (which happens often), or if Spreetail decides to not pay its vendors (the payment issues started around November) - it is and will be Vendor Management’s fault. Vendor Management does not have the tools to succeed and meet the metrics of Sales, Margin, and Inventory Turn. The in-house software that the company touts is nothing more than a patch work blanket made by dozens of coders that have come and gone. The blanket is past the point of fraying, it has gaping holes in it. If you like to spend hours creating a PO, trying to launch items, or trying to fix an error, go for it. You will be doing very little Vendor Management. There is a glaring mistrust between Senior Management and the rest of the company. For instance, Senior Management did not make Vendor Managers aware of the cash flow situation. Instead, knowing that Vendor Managers had no visibility to payment information, the company decided to stop paying vendors without any internal communication. Vendor Managers were then directed by leadership to get extended terms for current vendors. And well, you can imagine how that goes… If you value family and your holidays, Vendor Management is not for you. You will be expected to be available 24/7 during the holiday season up until shipping cut off (usually the Friday before Christmas). You will be asked multiple questions about a single item by Senior Leadership. The CEO regularly messages Vendor Managers at night (think 8pm or later and on the weekends) to ask questions about certain items. More often than not, these items aren’t even in the Top 100 items that the company buys and sells. If that isn’t the epitome of micromanaging, I’m not sure what is… Typically, experienced hires leave within 12 months of starting in Vendor Management.

We hear your concern about the pressure put on the Vendor Management team. The work they do plays a huge part in the success of our business and we appreciate all that they do. Taking your feedback into consideration, we've worked to offer up more information around cashflow both with our vendor management team and the entire company. We take full accountability for not being transparent enough early on. We’re also focusing on manager development with both new and experienced leaders on how to best lead teams. Our goal is to equip our team to be effective and make the best business decision on behalf of Spreetail.

Pros

People are friendly, that’s about it.

Cons

Oh boy, where do I start? Giving back to the community and caring about their employees is something Spreetail raves on about. However what are they actually doing to help out with the community and employees? Nothing. Ask our community’s team... and YOU will be alarmed to see how little we actually give back to communities and how we actually promise to help nonprofits and then cancel on them last minute, thus affecting people in need. Oh and the employees? Yeah good luck. You won’t be reimbursed gas money, travel costs, or Airbnb’s that you book. However select individuals are able to get certain things expenses. Oh and team lunches? Yeah, expect to bring extra cash with you because these aren’t paid for by the company. This company seemed like a great place for the first month, but once you get through the honeymoon stage you will begin to see through all the lies. Oh, and the company decided to randomly lay off random individuals that have majorly impacted Spreetail in so many great ways. Please do yourself and get out while you can, before it’s too late. Oh, and you will be promised that you can move around in the company within 6 months, but good luck.. that’s also just a lie.

We understand and appreciate your passion for giving back. While we have shifted our focus away from our direct-to-consumer website and the 5 percent giveback program, our goal is to continue giving back to our communities in other impactful ways. To date, we've donated 167,580 meals through our Stronger than Hunger program and completed more than 700 volunteer hours during this year's volunteer week.
