Protect your own mental health and GO

Pros

The mission statement is what got me hooked. Eliminating every barrier to mental health? YES. There are some genuine people that really care about making an impact in this field. They work hard and they're kind.

Cons

BUT what good is this mission statement when the people at the top struggle with basic communication and have no sense of empathy? Burnt out employees, tension among teams, passive aggressive behavior-it’s the last thing you would expect from a mental-health startup- and yet, that was the reality I faced everyday at work. Where is the "passion" for mental health and why isn’t it being practiced internally? I would have never predicted that a series of negative encounters with executives would weigh so heavily against my values that I felt so out of alignment and morally could not continue. Also, on the surface it seemed they wanted to create a more diverse executive team but in hindsight it’s become clear to me that it was more for show than to effect any actual change in the company. Words mean nothing without action behind it. The culture seemed warm and inviting in the beginning but it doesn't take long for consistency to prevail in the more negative aspects. Run away from this fast and take your desire to help the mental health field to a company that actually practices what they preach.

Pros

Solid recruitment led to really good employees; "move fast and break things" is the mantra, so you get to learn how to move really quickly in a young company. Business model is solid and clients are treated really well.

Cons

Leadership style of the CEO caused brilliant people to leave because of unrealistic expectations and inability to work with people. Turnover is about >50% under this management team. We had some senior hires that made complete sense, but they left in due course.

Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback; we appreciate the work you did to help us accomplish our mission to eliminate all barriers to mental healthcare. I agree with your feedback and we’re taking the necessary steps to further evolve to make sure sure this is a great place to work. We really pleased on how the team has continued to grow, as we now have 30+ employees and extremely low turnover.

Pros

Aside from the CEO the people here are generally nice and thoughtful people who came with good intentions. They joined the company because they care about mental health. Their passion for doing good while building something great shows.

Cons

We had an all-hands meeting last week and these are the most upvoted questions people asked anonymously on slido for exec. 'There were a number of questions about cultre, intensity and fit from the 2020 year in review that have not been addressed. Should we expect them to be?' 'I know of at least 5 people who plan to leave Spring when April makes everyone return to the office after covid. Is there a contingency plan?' 'Any plan to improve glassdoor ratings (or improve company culture so ratings improve?) We've lost alot job candidates because the reviews are so bad (and true)' 'We consistently run out of time during this meeting and questions/concerns go unaddressed. worthwhile to set-up a separate company-wide Q&A call at some point?' These are not the kind of questions questions people ask when they are happy with their job. April the CEO makes everyone she works with miserable. It is hell here and most people who made the mistake of joining are trying to get out. Don't make the same mistake no matter what they tell you when they try to convince you to join the company. You will regret it for sure.
