New Regime

Pros

None anymore...all the good people have gone or are leaving!

Cons

They allow abuse of employees to go on now,verbal,emotional by upper managment...people leave in tears and it just doesn't seem to matter to the new regime! What used to be a pretty decent place to work for, has now become the worst! They are getting rid of all the talented, knowledgeable people and put younger unskilled unknowing people in their place!

Hello - thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you feel all the good people have left or are leaving, and that you feel management lies to get their own agendas done. It is very concerning to me that you claim abuse of employees to the point or tears at the end of the day. This behavior and practice is COMPLETELY unacceptable and I will reach out to the management team there to get to the bottom of your claims - once I have answers I will reach out with more information. The changes that were made were to improve Stark's long term customer service for clients as well as our sales staff around the country. Many new employees have been added but age has never been a factor in employment decisions - work ethic, knowledge, attitude and ambition are the 4 most important factors in our hiring process. I personally interview a majority of employees before they are extended a job and can ensure that those 4 qualities take precedence over anything else. Wonderful people and good work/life balance

Pros

I had never worked in an environment with such creative people before and it was a real joy, especially compared to other NYC work places. I made some of my best friends in the city here. The work day is 9-5:30 and I really learned a lot about my field. I think with the new generation taking over, things are taking a turn for the better. The D&D building is a beautiful place to work, this is no cut price carpet store-- it's true luxury goods. Also great PTO policy- you get 4 weeks off fairly quickly!

Cons

Could do with some better training for new starters as this can be a challenging environment for people from design backgrounds without much sales experience.

Thank you for the valuable input. I'm glad our efforts to make Stark a more enjoyable place to work are being realized. Your point about better training is understood and we are already working on different ways to accomplish this. For example, we are in the process of rebuilding our employee-only internal website that serves as an employee's one-stop-shop for any training or corporate information about the company. There is still a lot of room for improvement but I think we are heading in the right direction.

Change for the positive with 3rd Generation Owners

Pros

Since the 3rd generation ownership joined the business the culture has changed for the positive. Management is communicative, caring about employee needs, the HR department has been built out significantly, and the general working atmosphere is positive

Cons

It is a very busy work environment that can be stressful at times if you do not know how to manage your time. However I think that is the case at any busy company
