Thank you for realizing our willingness to try new things. I'm sorry that you experienced "insider back biting." As management, we are doing as much as we can to create a collaborative, cohesive culture where all employees celebrate the success of other employees. Over the past 3 years we have brought many new employees into the organization who have this outlook and I'm optimistic that the territorial management mentality you experienced will no longer exist in the near future. Personally, as a manager, I believe that I should take credit for nothing and give credit to others for everything. My goal is for my employees to care about their jobs, the work they complete, and the overall well-being of all their coworkers. Pros

Monday thru Friday, 9-5 work week except when they have a 2 week clearance sale and do not pay you for the extra hours worked over the weekend. They are flexible with your schedule as far as taking the occasional long lunch or doctor/dentist appointment.

Cons

They pay as little as they can get away with and your commission rate is low effectively frustrating you when you recieve your quarterly commission check. Invetory software is outdated and user unfriendly. At sales meetings, they solicit your ideas and concerns and those of your co-workers, then never impement any change. This reinforces the perception that all they care about is sales numbers.

I'm sorry that you feel Stark management is egotistical. Our believe is that we should take credit for nothing and credit our employees for all company accomplishments. It is my mission to help change this belief. At Stark we believe that employees need a strong work-life balance in order to be happy and we encourage that through our 9-530 work week (with 30 min lunch break) and our PTO policy. Your statement about not paying for extra hours worked at clearance sales in inaccurate as we pay all salespeople by commission at these sales and all non-sales employees OT. Regarding pay, we compensate all sales employees fairly based on industry standards and in the carpet division we pay higher than the industry standards. Our inventory software was outdated but we've recently implemented a new ERP system that is much easier to use. Additionally, we are investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in custom building a web interface for our staff to use to make their lives as easy as possible. My focus is on creating a simple Point Of Sale system for our sales staff to improve the sales and customer service experience. Regarding sales meetings, we often get great ideas. Sales numbers are important but a happy sales force is what drives sales and that is where we focus our energies. We actually have a program within our company that we pay CASH to employees who submit ideas that we have not thought of once they are implemented. If you have any additional suggestions please email suggestions@starkcarpet.com. I look forward to hearing your ideas. As a company, we have invested in an ESOP for our employees. This Employee Stock Option Plan means that the Stark Family has essentially sold a percentage of the company to it's employees. New shares get issued to employees every year, and these shares rise in value as the company makes money. Once the employee is no longer with the company then he or she will get paid for their shares. This is a FREE benefit for employees and actually cost the company A LOT of money to maintain, but we feel it is in the best interest of our employees. I've recently been made aware that many employees are not aware of this free benefit and am putting together a presentation that I will personally be giving to everyone this summer. Lastly, salespeople do have cedicated customer support both in the showrooms and in our Calhoun warehouse. We have invested a lot of time and money in structuring a support department for salespeople that allows them to focus on their clients. The last couple years may have been rough because we implemented a new computer system, but now that is behind us and we are focused again on making the sales process efficient and effortless. Misleading hiring tactics, arbitrary letting-go tactics

Pros

Easy work, pretty building, easy commute.

Cons

They bait and switch you from one position to the next in the interview room, offer zero warning or guidence when you aren't living up to their un-enumerated expectations, resulting in out-of-the-blue dismissal, the staff is disresepctful both racially and sexually, and managers pit employees against each other for professional growth.

While I may not agree with your depiction of our company in the "Cons" section of your review, I am sorry that you left us with such negatives feelings and memories. That said, I would like address the issues you raised. Every job we post is a real job that we need to fill. However, when we interview a candidate that possess certain competencies that we believe makes them suitable for a particular career track, we open up an exploratory dialogue with that candidate during the interview process. We don't just hire for today, we hire for the future. While a candidate may have applied for a specific job, we are also thinking about how the candidate can grow here at Stark. While we value and encourage clear and frequent communications between employees and their managers, especially around the topic of performance (goals, expectations and progress), we recognize this is a work in progress for us. I am sorry that you may have had a manager that was less skilled than needed while you were with us. Our work environment is a melting pot of high performing, high energy people who all get along very well with each other. I respectfully disagree with your assertion that they are disrespectful toward each other. As to your last issue, "managers pitting employees against each other for professional growth", while you may have interpreted something you heard or saw that way, it's just not an accurate assessment.
