Pros

-This is an amazing place to start a career and learn everything digital marketing -Very flexible. Probably the most flexible job I have worked. As long as you were getting your work done, you had more freedom. -Management had an open door policy, help was always there if needed. Management in the Fort Mill office felt very welcoming. -Ongoing training and professional development outside of work. The Fort Mill office was constantly giving us opportunities for professional development whether it be webinars or seminars, which Straight North paid for. We went to Digital Summit in Charlotte 2 years while I worked here. -Laptops and other technology around the office were top of the line. -Friendly employees. Made a lot of friends in my time here that I still keep in touch with.

Cons

-High turnover in the technical positions. More work was put on employees than they could handle. The client count continued to grow during my time, however, employee count actually decreased. -A lot of head scratching decisions such as refusing to hire for needed positions or constant changes in processes- especially the client onboarding process -No incentives for my particular position and others around the company. Some positions within the company received a hefty quarterly commission, while others who did the grunt work or those who drove the campaign and produced the results did not. -The company began moving towards a quantity over quality approach. The custom campaigns that were created for each client, which Straight North prided itself on, began to disappear in the final year I worked here. -Not much culture for it being an agency. -Favoritism between positions.

Great Place to Work

Pros

-The digital marketing industry is everchanging, which makes the job fast-paced and fun. No two days will ever be the same. -The company still has a "start-up" mentality which allows team members to be creative and take risks as long as you can support your decisions. -Straight North really believes in work-life balance, which from previous experience, is difficult to find. If you want to work extra and do more, you are welcome to, but it is not required or forced. -The pay is extremely fair and they truly care for their employees. -The flat structure of management allows for easy access to executives. -Anyone who has managed clients knows that it can be extremely difficult at times, yet rewarding. This account management position is no different.

Cons

-The flat structure does not allow for title changes, but you will take on more responsibility. -The office design is pretty basic - no fun coffee machines, no pretty meeting spaces, etc. -The office is located in Fort Mill, SC which in the Charlotte suburbs. Moving the office closer to the city would make for happy employees and the opportunity to recruit better talent who do not want to commute.

Not a bad place to learn, Grow your marketing career

Pros

There are number of great things at Straight North. Everyone is incredibly kind and willing to help you out at a moment's notice. If you're ambitious you can learn a TON about inbound marketing at this company. The management are smart and they'll give you plenty of opportunities to advance within the company if you show results. For a fresh grad, I think it can be a good launching pad to a career in SEO / SEM. I'd also mention that work/life balance is superb at this firm. They allow you to have a life beyond work.

Cons

The pay is very, very low. There are some semi-valid reasons for this - it's a growing company and they're trying to keep costs down. But in the end, they're taking advantage of fresh graduates who are desperate for experience and paying them next to nothing. Not surprisingly, turnover is very high.
