Pros

Management allows you to pursue new responsibilities. Office environment can be fun (used to be more fun I hear). Most of the top level management are great people (except for one maybe).

Cons

Management's primary (really only) concern volume, and quality of work (and the variety of clients) is what really suffers. All work (content, web, client acquisition etc...) is very formulaic so don't work here if you expect to be stretched. I understand it from a business perspective... but it's not what's best for the clients, and it's certainly not what's best for the employees, which is a shame - I've heard things used to be pretty different.

I appreciate your comments. It sounds like you enjoyed our office environment, the people you worked with, and the skills you learned here. However, it sounds like you also experienced a lot of change in your job role attributed to the rollout of our new service and delivery process improvements. Now that we have worked our way through the majority of these improvements, Straight North is a very different company. Today, we have refined processes in place that ensure the delivery of high-level and consistent quality services to all our clients. While our delivery method does follow a rigorous process (like any good business), our strategies for Internet marketing campaigns remain 100% custom per client and are supervised by our dedicated, expert Campaign Managers. The large majority of our clients experience game-changing results in terms of sales leads and/or e-commerce revenue generated from their Internet marketing campaigns. We will continue to strive for improvements, but we are very proud of where are today, and where Straight North is headed. Thank you for the time you chose to spend with us here at Straight North. I truly wish you all the best with your future endeavors, and I am always pleased to provide references for our former team members. If there is any way I can help you in the pursuit of your career goals, please contact me directly for assistance. Sincerely, Kevin C. Duffy President, Chief Creative Officer Straight North

Pros

Everyone I have worked with is kind and management takes a more servant leadership approach. The work relationships are positive, and management is great in terms of mutual support. Work is consistent and independent from other coworkers, which can be nice at times. Remote working has been a wonderful addition and offers a more open schedule and independence. They offer competitive wages. The technology we use, specifically the hardware, is updated and we use software that is commonplace in the industry. Additionally, they promote a great work-life balance. Which also relates to adequate perks, amenities, and employee wellness programs such as a free gym membership.

Cons

I think this company could be open to more opportunities to grow internally and to apply more flexibility toward operations. In a recent company presentation, the CEO discusses the safest way to keep your job secure is to create indispensable value. Our strategy hasn’t been updated since 2019 and since then the external environment has demanded it to be (-IE, July 2021 core update, December 2022 core update). It’s the employee’s responsibility to be motivated and create value, I agree. But it is management’s responsibility to allow that value to be maximized and frankly in the role I am in it doesn’t feel to be the case. I think opportunities internally need to be given that way we feel challenged. I think the ASAP program is a nice start, but it is not enough. Open opportunities to learn more and create new positions that show your attentiveness to the willingness for growth. Everyone wants better here, and in our position, there is only so much we as lower-level employees can control. On top of that, I think the link-building model we use is outdated. People are not interested in posting for free as they once were and if they are it requires more proof of quality and trust which we don’t have as much access to. Publishers of high-quality sites that do require payment are requesting more, not less. I would love to be more selective about our opportunities, but our bonus structure relies on the completeness of tasks, which creates a principal agent problem. Everyone wants better here, and in our position, there are only so much lower-level employees can control. Great companies hire and give opportunities within and react quickly to changes in the industry.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! It sounds like you enjoy the positive relationships with your coworkers and management, along with the consistent work and flexibility of remote work and your work-life balance. In addition, you also like the competitive salary, technology, free gym membership and other benefits/perks. Our goal is to make sure we take care of our team members. We know you have a choice when it comes to the company that you work for. We want you to enjoy your job and continue producing the amazing work that you do every day for our clients. As a small business, we do as much as we can to take care of team members like you, while also leading our company to grow and improve. From an improvement standpoint, related to your position, it sounds like you would welcome more opportunities to grow and apply more flexibility towards our workflow. We are currently in the middle of working on an improved service delivery model for the content marketing team. Your manager is leading these efforts under a documented roadmap. As pieces of the improved model are completed, we will reach a point where new job roles will be created and new workflows will be put in place. As you can imagine, these things take time as this work needs to be done in tandem with the delivery of completed work for our clients. Your manager will keep you in the loop as progress is made on improving our content marketing service delivery model. Your feedback on your position and our company is valuable, as your job role improves and we become a better business with your feedback. The best way to seek actionable steps forward is to request a meeting with your manager. Having face-to-face discussions about your ideas, desires and concerns is the best way to communicate and create a path towards improvement. Your manager can also share details and insights with you that you may not currently have, which will help you see the full picture of our service delivery model. Thanks again for your review and we look forward to making improvements to our business based on your feedback.

Pros

-Good collaborative team members who are happy to help and solve problems together! -The work itself for the most part is templated and pretty easy but there are some opportunities for problem solving that allow you to think a little more critically. -Ability to move up. -WFH with the option to work from the office. -Very occasionally there are bonuses or incentives for when there are busy months.

Cons

-Company culture died with COVID. -Repetitive work, some of which feels like busywork. -Heavy client load. Feels nearly impossible to go into depth with any one client, and there's not really any chance to do deep-dives and tackle problems below surface level. -Low pay. General feeling of being undervalued by execs. -There's not a lot of training or professional development. If you want to learn more about the industry, you have to make time for it and explore on your own. -Company goes through pretty high turnover and management doesn't really seem to care for employee retention. That being said it is a decent place to work, get a few good years experience and move on.

Thanks for taking time to leave a four-star review! We are happy to hear that you enjoy working with your team members. We take great pride in hiring experts with 5-10+ years of experience along with creating opportunities for entry-level hires to start their career. As you have started your career with us over the last 1-2 years, it sounds like you have appreciated the ability to move up within the company, grow your skillset and increase your compensation. If you feel that you need additional training to better perform your job, please communicate that concern to your manager. We pay competitive salaries based on years of experience combined with skill level and have an annual performance/compensation review cycle. We promote staff throughout the year as advancement opportunities present themselves. It seems there is a misunderstanding of how promotions and pay increases work. Please communicate with your manager to clear up any concerns you may have. While it is our goal to retain as many employees for as long as possible, we understand that staff at the beginning of their career may look for advancement opportunities outside of our company. We wish them the best of luck in their future career path. We agree that COVID has created a less than ideal culture for many businesses. While many staff members overwhelmingly enjoy working remotely, we know 100% remote work has its drawbacks. As COVID concerns continue to dissipate, we will continue to provide a flexible remote/office work policy and work to improve our culture. Thanks again for your feedback. It helps us work to continually improve our business.
