A Solid Choice for Tutoring

Pros

The flexibility of being able to make my own schedule. The pay is okay, not great, but I like not having to market myself for new students. Also, once you are experienced there are opportunities to grow within the company, be it taking a full-time role, becoming a mentor tutor, or interviewing potential tutors. StudyPoint also allows you to continue tutoring independently, which similar companies often do not allow.

Cons

Sometimes you may be asked to travel farther than you set up your area - if so you should ask for travel compensation. Tutoring availability can really depend on your area and the time of year - if you are in an area that StudyPoint doesn't have as much prevalence in you will have trouble getting students.

Thank you for the feedback! The opportunities for veteran tutors that you mentioned are definitely a benefit of tutoring for StudyPoint. Though we do our best to set appropriate expectations around hours, this can sometimes be challenging given the various factors that impact assignments (subject, location, scheduling needs, student's specific needs, etc.). It is helpful to hear that this should continue to be an area of focus. Keep up the great work! Best, Greg President & Co-Founder

Pros

-Program Managers -Flexibility -Tutoring Materials -Reputation It is mostly a great job. I love working with students and this gives me the opportunity to do just that.

Cons

-Travel. Students who live within 30 minutes can still take almost an hour to get to them based on their lesson time and traffic. Not being compensated for this time, is a downer. It means more time away from my family. -Parent expectations. I've had a few parents recently that expect to have a conversation after every session, some of these run 15+ minutes. Or they're calling and emailing me a couple times a week. I'm not compensated for that time. -Student Expectations: Students seem to not being doing the homework on time more and more lately. I've had a few students who feel that I should be able to help them improve their scores, but do nothing during the week we're not meeting to get better. I even send links to flashcards so they can work on it a few minutes a day. -Raises: Getting a raise once a year is okay, but I think every six months if you work a minimum number of hours would be more fair. It encourages tutoring, but also gives the tutor a reason to keep doing it.
