Tutoring for StudyPoint

Pros

The staff personnel are engaging, supportive, knowledgeable and professional. I applied online and within one week, I was invited to have a phone interview. The interview process proceeded quickly and I entered the employ of StudyPoint. My first student assignment was given a few weeks after my hire date. This is my initial tutoring assignment and it has been most pleasant and rewarding. The program material is well designed and it is in concert with the SAT. As I assess the strengths /weaknesses of my student, as the tutor, I have latitude to adapt the lesson flow to my student. Witnessing my student's growth has been heart-warming.

Cons

Addition to the training material which would detail the homework - Part I, Part II, Part III and the adaptive provision.

Pros

StudyPoint is awesome at giving me students when I want them, which is a huge plus (because I hate marketing!). I LOVE being able to make my own schedule and define my own work radius. I enjoy the freedom I have as a tutor--my manager doesn't hover, so I have the space to tailor my work with families to meet their individual needs.

Cons

Tutors are not compensated fairly--we make a small percentage of the money families pay for our services. We are expected to travel up to 30 minutes one way for lessons, and we are not compensated for gas mileage or tolls. For a 1.5 hour lesson, we spend almost as much time driving as we do tutoring, but we aren't paid for it. Also, I think it's important to develop strong connections with my students' parents, which requires extra emails and phone conversations. We are not paid for those communications either. Finally, I have had to apologize to families more than a few times for poor communication on behalf the StudyPoint team.

Pros

The programs are top notch for students, communication is great between tutors and managers, flexible schedule. Professional, friendly, caring employees.

Cons

Tutors are not compensated for time spent communicating with families after each session. Work is inconsistent. Sometimes I will have multiple students but then go months with no students.
