Pros

Pros have been eclipsed by cons in recent years.

Cons

Company employee relations philosophy is "ask not what Summa can do for the employee, but what the employee can do for Summa." Policies disallow employees from actually using benefits; no functional raise in 6 years (the two small raises were offset by benefit cuts, resulting in a net loss for the employee). Etc.

Pros

The floor nurses have your back, they band together to give the best care ever.

Cons

There is a disconnect between management and the people who actually provide the care of the patient. Nurses are put in situations that are unsafe for them and their patient and they hold all of the responsibility against their licenses. They admit patients that they don’t have the staff to care for.

Lay-offs every budget season and lots of turmoil right now

Pros

Pay is probably above average.

Cons

CEO just resigned. In may law suits with other hospitals so legal fees are draining the operating funds therefore layoffs to meet bottom line requirements of minority owner. Convert to software programs before testing is done so the processes are a mess. Being controlled by a minority owner (Mercy) even when results are not best for Summa.
