Pros

The #1 positive comment I have about N2 Publishing and my 5 years working here. You will not find a better group of people who genuinely care about your success and who follow through with their mission statement of strengthening the family WHILE providing financial freedom...and not one or the other. At N2 you can have both, the balance of family/vacations and income without sacrificing the other. There is not one person in management that I don't deeply respect. There are no start up costs to the Area Director which is also nice. I do want to comment on something I read on an earlier "review" on the company regarding "Company Sponsored Prayer Sessions". The company does have a weekly optional Bible Study but it's definitely not mandatory, nor does it affect whether someone will be promoted etc. In fact, most of the people in senior management don't attend the optional call. No one takes "attendance" on any optional conference calls, hence why they're optional!

Cons

You have to go 3 months without income when you start. Although there are not any "costs" when you start, you do have to work for a few months without making any money because that's about how long it takes to sell enough advertising to cover the costs of going to print. Another con is that due to the excessive growth of the company, although the leadership are extremely capable, there seems to be more Area Director's needing help than there are resources to help them. Although this is something leadership seems to be addressing so hopefully that will improve in the next year or so.

Pros

The Area Director position is a tremendous role for the right person. If someone is eager to develop a protected area that they have an equity stake in, operate their organization with a level of independence yet still be open to working within the companies established systems and programs, earn a very solid income, then this might be the perfect role for someone. A person can build their organization to a multiple person fully staffed operation that oversees many newsletters, or they can run a single publication as a one person show. The company offers a strong enough training program that it's not necessary to have a background in publishing or ad sales. They have assembled a lot of strong character like minded individuals who create an enjoyable culture to work in. Lastly, the ability to do all of the above mentioned without having to work crazy hours, holidays, and weekends.

Cons

The primary downside, which is a downside for most sales positions is the emotional roller-coaster. However, once someone gets settled in the role the natural ups and downs of results seem to stabilize.

Pros

I absolutely love the flexibility it gives me. I can take several weeks of vacation every year and do not have to ask for time off to stay home with sick kids, school activities, etc. N2 is still a young company so everything is not perfect, but the founders are committed to making the systems better and investing in technology and support systems for the field. The training continues to improve. The culture of the company is fantastic. Everyone is willing to help those who want it, but they do not micro-manage you. It gives me the opportunity to make a great living with unlimited earning potential. I can work independently or build a tea. It is up to me. I love that I can produce and sell a product everyone loves. One poster commented on the "corporate prayer" sessions. That is ridiculous. The founders of the company are Christian, but do not require anyone to participate in "prayer" sessions. There is an optional bible study once a week, but no one is pressured or required to participate.

Cons

The largest responsibility is sales, so some of the cons will relate to ANY sales position. You must be self-disciplined and motivated. You need to be able to handle rejection and be able to overcome objections. You need to be good at prospecting and networking within your territory. You need to be organized and able to manage many different tasks. Leadership skills do help especially if you plan to build a team of support and sales staff. Your income is directly related to how hard you work. Some would say that is a pro. but it can also be a con depending on how you look at it.
