Pros

If you live the out here lifestyle, this is the company for you. The customer base is your neighbors and your co-workers share the same interest as you. There is plenty of opportunity for advancement, if you are willing to work hard for it. It's one of the fastest growing companies in the retail field. (swiped from another review because I couldn't have said it as well). I loved my job, my customers, and about 95% of the people I worked with.

Cons

Things have to change, and change soon. The payroll expectations are absolutely killing the team members from the top to the bottom. Some part-timers barely get 12-16 hrs a week (and mgr are strongly discouraged from hiring high school or college kids) and they (DMs and corporate) want only 5 full time people (2 team leads, a receiver, an ASM and the SM) everyone else is supposed to be part time in order for a store to be able to be staffed with enough people, which still isn't enough because you can't get the things you need to done in 4-5 hrs and provide the customer service the company expects. If you do happen to be considered full time it's 30 hrs, not 40... and you're expected to perform the work of a 40 hour week, while providing legendary customer service from 8 to 8. You must maintain an open schedule, so there's no room for a part-time job to supplement your income. Even the salaried manager is feeling the wrath of the lowered payroll. There's weeks the manager has to work 7 days, some open to close, just to meet payroll expectations. At the end of the day, the only people benefiting from this are executives and wealthy shareholders. Because of the workload, customers are often pushed aside for resets and freight. Also, expect to not receive much training and the training you do receive will be incomplete. If you are lucky and get a great DM who understands how the store runs and why things don't at times you can expect to be noticed and asked to take on more responsibility if you have proven yourself. If not, then you'll hear nothing but complaints about things not getting done and sees anything less than perfect as an excuse. The same with a store manager, there are great ones who are involved and the leadership and development of their team and there are those that want nothing more than to not do much other than accept praise that's due their team and won't ask for help when they need it. Oh.. and don't take anything your SM says as how things are done.. just because they say something is a certain way doesn't mean it's so.. and the higher ups won't care that the SM told you to it that way.. What they really mean is that it's ok to do it that way until something happens and then the responsibility is all on you..

Pros

15% off stock shares and a pretty good 401k plan.

Cons

Tractor Supply talks a lot about their 'Mission & Values' but doesn't believe in them at all. For instance, they talk about 'BALANCE' yet they require Store Managers to work a minimum of 52 hours a week, that breaks down to 6-1/2 days a week, when the rest of America typically works 40 hours a week. In fact, 52 hours a week is not nearly enough to accomplish all that has to be done with the minimal payroll dollars that managers are given to staff their store. In addition, managers are forced to cut their budgets (i.e., reduce payroll) in order to achieve rigorous quarterly profit goals. The company is making money hand over fist but they are doing it on the backs of the salaried Store Managers. Unfortunately, the company will not change this strategy because it is a proven formula for success as shown in the stock evaluation over the last few years and the 100+ store growth per year, and more importantly they know that a new crop of Assistant Managers will be gunning for a chance to be Store Manager. Tractor Supply will then ride them for a year or two before they figure out how the system works and then jump ship, at which time TSC will grab another ASM at a bargain price. So would I work there, NO, would I buy stock there, YES.

Pros

Great benefits. Planning to have a baby? This company will take care of you. Their motto: "Work hard. Play hard." is very true. They celebrate a lot and often. And they like to take days off from working at the office. Call Center has to stay, though, for customer call-ins. BUT you get paid OT for staying when the rest of the building empties out. Flexible with hours. Confidence is key to anyone's success at a company so immersed in old thought patterns.

Cons

It's very much an old white man's club if you look at workplace environment. I think they know that and they're trying to make it diverse. Some of the people who have worked there forever don't like that at all. If you know how to work your magic on people so set in their throwback ways then you're in luck. Also, the customers constantly complained about the products sold at TSC. Everyday there were complaints about the warranties, products, and services that just weren't up to par to what they were advertising. All of it was misleading. TSC is really just a big powerhouse company that became so from taking advantage of customers by way of overpricing their cheaply made products. Oh, and work hours were horrible--HORRIBLE. Different times worked just about every day and every week.
