Meanwhile, Legal Support Staff are treated as disposable labor, expected to clean up attorneys’ messes and take the fall when things go wrong.
LSS are grossly overworked and constantly disrespected. I was once expected to support nine attorneys in a single day. You’re frequently forced to act as a debt collector or manage overdrawn retainers that attorneys mishandled—yet they face no consequences. If you’re not one of management’s favorites, even minor miscommunications (often caused by attorneys) will be weaponized against you.
To make matters worse, Legal Support Staff are expected to clean the kitchen and drive 10 minutes after hours just to drop off the office mail—completely unacknowledged. It’s beyond degrading.
