Pros

UHS is a large company with career growth potential. Excellent health care benefits. Opportunities for relocation all over the country.

Cons

Corporate is distant from the individual facility which allows for facility administrators to vary in skills, personalities, and style. Getting stuck with an egocentric administrator or CEO in a salaried position in a right-to-work state leaves no job security or options to improve the facility conditions.

Pros

- Generous compensation (excluding time off policy) - You get to work with some cool tech - If you enjoy travel, there are many opportunities to do so

Cons

- Time off policy needs work. They give you a decent number of vacation days and holidays, however, your sick days are use or lose. As a generally healthy person (who helps keep insurance costs down), I would rather accrue more hours than be losing my sick days. - No remote opportunities...except for a select few who are somehow deemed exempt from this policy. I have no basis to determine whether or not these people "deserve" to be able to work remotely, but that's not my issue. We support ALL of our customers remotely since there are of course, no acute care facilities under the UHS umbrella located in PA. I'm baffled as to why we NEED to be in this office if we are never (save for actual travel) face to face with our customers. However, I knew this going in, so it's not like they try to hide it, just be aware. - As an addition to the last point, many people use vacation days due to inclement weather as we are simply not allowed to work from home. They do have the option to work from home with supervisor approval during terrible weather IF they work a full day and use half a vacation day...what? Again, it's a fairly small point as this might only be an issue a couple days a year, but just another knock against the old school culture they refuse to even evaluate. - Business professional dress code. Yes, it is a bit nit picky, but if we're not meeting with any customers while in the office, I'm not sure why business casual is such a no-no (except for Fridays, which management acted as though they were giving us the greatest gift when they implemented this). - For a tech company that needs to keep pace with new solutions, actual change is VERY slow. The old school culture feels very limiting in a number of ways.

Pros

Co-workers are great and willing to work as a team to keep patients safe. Benefits are good and reasonably priced. Overtime is always available.

Cons

Starting compensation is low and slow to increase. Management not concerned with shortage of staff. The new CEO has a list of her top 10 pet peeves. Number 1 on that list is complaints about the shortage of staff. With 7 - 1 patient ratios she should be discussing this everyday to find out why turn over is so high. Older educational nurse is rude and condescending which inhibits learning. During orientation her favorite phrase was, "I will hit you with my shoe." NO EXTRA PAY FOR HOLIDAYS Low 401K matching contribution.
