Pros

regular paycheck, reasonable commute, hours were reasonable

Cons

The most outdated computer system I've ever seen. All pharmacy orders were faxed and often illegible. We were not supposed to call to verify. The "rules" kept changing or were unclear and inconsistent. Even the names of the units were not consistent and just about everything in the pharmacy was randomly confusing. The pharmacy operation system was the worst I've ever encountered as the safeguards against mistakes were so confusing and unlike any other pharmacy I had worked at in 20 years. There were exceptions to most "rules" that we were supposed to know and the Director was very inconsistent and insulting.

Pros

There is opportunity for career growth and unlike many Cerner clients, UHS doesn't silo you within one area of expertise with the clinical team. I've had the opportunity in the last 3 years to learn FirstNet build, CareNet, PowerChart Maternity, CCL and PowerInsight. UHS is a front running company when it comes to innovation in the Cerner EMR space and the speed with which we move doesn't leave room to stagnate in your career. Not to mention most Cerner clients won't hire new graduates or those who have no Cerner experience. UHS sees this as an opportunity and does just that--they bring in fresh talent with little to no experience but have the desire to be a part of something big and they teach them the things they need to know about workflow, build, etc.

Cons

The salary range seems to be a bit below the average, however, the opportunity to obtain knowledge and gain experience especially with the innovation can be considered to some an additional value not achieved financially.

Pros

benefits, I guess, although they have increased exponentially over the past few years; competitive salary

Cons

no room for career growth; refusal to provide explicit provision of continuing education funds or related benefits; company-wide priority set on profit which is reiterated and repeatedly re-emphasized by upper management with no concern for employee needs, concerns or other feedback as well as a general lack of acknowledgement or appreciation for the employees who provide the direct patient services
