Pros

They offer benefits, if your a people person then its a good fit because I met so many nice people.

Cons

Management does not have a clue as to how to treat the employees. If you have a request your ignored until they are ready to move on it. The turnover says it all. People would stay if it were a fair and friendly environment. I read reveiws before I started work there and they only prove to be true, what a shame. I do not see myself desiring a long term career within a place that is so scripted. And all it takes is one grouchy person to come into the store and have an emotional upset then just balme it on an associate. All I can say is know yourself , and if you do an exceptional job then you can walk away from this with your head held high no matter what MGT says or how bad they choose to kiss up to the customer. I would guess that Von Has lost some really great employees due to this. Where are the customer satisfaction cards for customers to fill out ??? How hard was that to think of. I feel that Von Maur is just flat desperate and must kiss up to customers keep the stores running . They know they can always push another training sesssion through in a day, so therefore the employee is dispensable. What a shame!!!

Pros

The employees were so SO nice and great to work with. They were always willing to help each other out when needed. Management knew their employees by name, which made it seem like they cared.

Cons

TESS is awful. It does not take into account the distance away that people live. I lived 45 minutes away, so when TESS scheduled me for a 3 hour shift (6-9= no sales) I would be driving half the amount of time I would be working. The company should have reviewed employees' opinion on the TESS system before implementing it. The computer system is very outdated. They are too strict about sales goals and do not take into account the hours worked or the crappy economy. There were never enough employees to cover their own department. Everyone had to cover everyone else's department. Customers are coming in expecting to have an "expert" on the clothes they are buying. Overall there were just some issues with Von Maur, not just specifically my store.

Pros

Nice benefits. 401k offered. Paid vacation and sick time is fair. wonderful co workers. Holidays off with pay. Time and a half on sundays. Will sometimes open early but never stays open late. Promotes from within.

Cons

Will not take suggestions or feedback from employees. They support the customer over the associate in every instance. Upper management gets younger and younger and not enough time with the company. Can be overly strict. Employees walk on eggshells. Sales goals can be too high. There is no return policy. Customers return things obviously worn, sometimes a year later. This goes against associates sales goal for some reason and creates high stress levels. New electronic scheduling system (tess) makes no sense. It is scheduling 9 and 10 hour shifts, sometimes 8 and 9 days in a row. It schedules lunches too, sometimes an hour after punching or 6 hours after punching. It has sadly created unhappy, exhausted employees who no longer go the extra mile for the company. A shift is now like doing time.
