      Good For What It Is

      Pros

      Absolutely some of the best co-workers I've ever been associated with. It truly feels like family there. I think management is very good, and we have some of the best hours in retail. The store policy in working with the customer makes it really fun and because of it there is a very loyal customer base.

      Cons

      Not really a living wage, but that's also retail. I would like to see a progressive comission scale. 1% on the subtotal is sort of disingeniuous. Also there are those of us without a formal degree that have years of sales and customer service experience that will never move beyond DM. That seems like a waste of some very talented people that actually like working retail.

      Pros

      The compensation at Von Maur is higher than at most other retail establishments and all associates receive commission. The store does not hold the extended hour sales during the holiday season that other stores in the mall does.

      Cons

      It's retail- the hours are long, the pay isn't high. There is only one location in the Columbus area with limited inventory. You are often required to call other stores and have items shipped in for your customers in order to make the sale. Terminals are extremely outdated and associates are writing out charge sends, etc.

      Pros

      Comparatively in retail, it's a very good working environment. Rules are fair and the customers are the main focus of the business.

      Cons

      Promotions are more often based on politics rather than ability. There are some problems with how new programs get implemented.
