Pros

Very flexible in how you manage. Company culture is great. Strong job security. Advantages of a larger company with the feel of a smaller company.

Cons

Long hours and no guaranteed vacation days. Industry trend is to under staff projects making a work life balance hard. Working a 40 hour week is a rarity during a project, on average 10 - 12 hour days 5-6 days a week has been the norm in my 7 year experience. Salary is based on 40 hours but offers no compensation for additional, premium time, holiday, or weekend hours.

Pros

Great exposure to the industry. A lot of the training is self taught on the job.

Cons

The pay is weak. Yearly raises are around 2 to 3 percent on average. Very clicky. Feedback on how you are doing is very weak. With close to 3,000 employees and with already growing so large in the industry new employees will not see the personal gains that upper management has seen. This is in regards to the large retirements that they try to sell you on. You scratch their back but they don't scratch yours.

Pros

The company has okay benefits. This includes medical/dental/life insurance that is covered by the company for the employee. This company is an ESOP, but it is a 15 year vest timeline, which aligns with the orange handcuffs the company has.

Cons

The Wilmington office for Whiting-Turner has a strong amount of poison within management. A lot of bad behavior is allowed and there is almost a clique mentality. When issues get brought up to management they don't get handled. This in turn caused people to leave the company and the workload gets spread amongst the remaining staff. The Wilmington office will quickly demand more responsibilities out of you but will not compensate you for the work done. They have been known to dangle a carrot in front of hard working employees and keep feeding them empty promises to keep working hard. I would stay away from the Wilmington office if you are looking to work for a great company who will invest in you and compensate you for your work ethics.
