Pros

- Smart, passionate colleagues who genuinely care about the mission - Strong, mission-driven product that makes a real impact - Flexibility in remote work and overall work-life balance (prior to layoffs) - Opportunities to work on high-visibility projects and events like Workhuman Live

Cons

- Leadership decisions often feel reactive rather than strategic - Two rounds of layoffs in three years raise questions about long-term planning - Lack of transparency and empathy in how layoffs were handled - Disconnect between the internal employee experience and what the company promotes externally - Difficult to trust in job security, even after major contributions I believed in Workhuman’s mission. I poured myself into the work—because I genuinely cared about creating meaningful experiences for others. But the way the 2025 layoffs were handled told a different story about how employees are valued internally. This was the second round of layoffs in three years, which says a lot about the company's business strategy. But what felt especially disheartening was spending millions on a flagship event meant to celebrate employees and customers—only to lay off many of the very people who made it possible days later. Colleagues were let go before they had even unpacked their suitcases. Many had worked long hours preparing for and supporting the event onsite. It felt like a betrayal of the core values the company stands for. For a business that positions itself as a leader in employee experience, the lack of transparency, empathy, and foresight in this decision was deeply disappointing. Culture is built in moments like this—and unfortunately, the message was clear: we are all replaceable. If you’re considering working here, know that the mission is inspiring, the product is strong, and many of the people are incredible. But be cautious—what’s preached outwardly doesn’t always align with how employees are treated when the business hits turbulence.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and it’s clear that recent events have impacted you greatly, understandably so. To continue to be in a position to invest in strategic growth areas, the volatility of the current times requires us to focus heavily on operational efficiency. We appreciate keenly though, that these business decisions impact people in a real way. As you rightly point out, part of what makes Workhuman a special place to work, is the people around you. Departing this community is a difficult process, as it is for many of the people who remain who have to say professional farewells to people who have become more than co-workers. We do our utmost to handle these challenging times with as much care and empathy as possible, but these deeply personal moments have an impact, and we recognize that. Our annual conference is a strategic pillar of our business and planned independently of organizational changes. That said, we understand the optics and the emotional impact of timing of business changes. We remain committed to learning from these experiences and we thank you sincerely for your impact on the people and the business during your time here, and we wish you all the best in what comes next for you.

Pros

Good benefits, and WFH policy

Cons

They did a massive round of layoffs in early 2023, ever since then the company has not been the same. This was followed by two more smaller rounds in 24' and 25'. A lot of smart and talented people lost their jobs, many dedicated folks who had been at the company for years. Since their management team can't create a positive workplace culture, its easier to just blame others and make cuts. The lack of documentation and formal processes is shocking, especially for a company that's been around for 25+ years. When you combine this with the incredibly siloed org structure, its a recipe for disaster. You'll often hear a response of...."because that's how we do things here". Transparency is non-existent; everything is on a need to know basis. This policy protects the veteran employees, and shuts out the newer talent. Many things are learned just through word of mouth, there's very little in terms of formal announcements. Some employees will be drowning with work, while others do very little, this is just one side effect of their truly incompetent management team.

We’re grateful you took the time to share your reflections. It’s clear that you brought genuine passion for the work, the people, and the customers we serve—and it’s deeply unfortunate that your time with us didn’t reflect the principles we aim to stand by. Trust and connection can be heavily influenced by how we handle key moments and when these moments occur, especially during periods of transition, the effects are real. We acknowledge that and are committed to learning how to navigate these situations with more care, clarity, and honesty moving forward. Your impact here hasn’t gone unnoticed, and we truly hope the road ahead brings you opportunities that recognize your value and dedication.
